    England 7-0 South Africa

Wow. Another scrum penalty for England!

What's all this about an inexperienced front row?

Marcus Smith boots the ball into touch from inside England's 22. An excellent recovery from the hosts after a period of pressure.

  2. Replacement - Tuilagi injuredpublished at 10 mins

    England 7-0 South Africa

    From the highest of highs...

Manu Tuilagi hurt himself in that score and it will be his last act of the game. Max Malins is on on the wing and Joe Marchant moves to outside centre.

Malins is one of just two backs on the bench for England. It's been an incredible start, but staying ahead is an even bigger challenge for the hosts now.

Outstanding England try – ruthless and accurate play with backs and forwards working together to ask questions of the famed South Africa defence.

Shades of Tuilagi’s score against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final; although this time the centre had a lot more work to do.

Great start from Eddie Jones’ men.

A pretty much perfect start for England. Their front row stood up to the scrum test, their canny line-out out-foxed the Boks and their hands were quick enough to beat the blitz defence.

    Long way to go though.

    Manu Tuilagi (Con Marcus Smith)

    Manu Tuilagi is over!

Incredible vision from Marcus Smith, he sees the space on the left and finds Henry Slade.

Slade's long pass reaches Manu Tuilagi on the left wing and the centre powers through Handre Pollard to score. A huge start for England.

Marcus Smith has the mettle to land his conversion from the left touchline too.

Manu Tuilagi has a go but is brought down by Damian de Allende.

England go right, then left and eventually Maro Itoje goes to ground.

    Space on the left...

There is a crackling atmosphere at Twickenham that you only get during big Six Nations matches or when the All Blacks are in town. The crowd know the players need them today against the world champions.

The maul comes down sharpish and England are a few metres short of the tryline.

The first scrum doesn't get going but Kyle Sinckler begs for another and he gets his wish.

And the penalty goes England's way! Cue huge grin from Sinckler. He is up for this.

The hosts aren't avoiding the set-piece and kick for the corner.

Willie le Roux is there first.

Lovely idea from Ben Youngs though, exciting stuff.

England will have a 5m scrum. Time to see how this front row gets on.

An excellent chase from newly reinstated wing Joe Marchant gets England up to South Africa's 22.

A chip through, Freddie Steward is after it!

Captain Courtney Lawes starts as he means to go on with a carry into some very heavy traffic.

But South Africa reclaim the ball and Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi bats right back as he clears out English defenders to keep the ball safely in his side's possession.

None of David Sole's slow walk. Both teams tore out of the tunnel like they hadn't seen meat for a week.

The atmosphere is crackling. Everything it should be for the visit of the world champions.

England have got a choir too rather than just one singer as they usually do. How fun.

Obviously the hosts' rendition is slightly louder and it looks like everyone but Kyle Sinckler is putting in their best singing effort.

    Anyway, time for business.

England v South Africa (15:15 GMT)

After a moment to mark Rugby Against Racism, as has become the norm in international rugby, it is time for South Africa's national anthem.

They've got a six-person choir backing them, but as usual Siya Kolisi probably contributes most as he closes his eyes and throws his head back to belt out the words.
