Scotland get the first opportunity to stretch their legs as it's spun out to Huw Jones, who makes 20m or so and gets into Ireland's half.

Finn Russell's little grubber goes straight to Hugo Keenan, who clears.

It's cagey so far. And then Ireland pinch Scotland's lineout!

    Scotland 0-0 Ireland

Scotland exit pretty well and Hugo Keenan just about avoids dropping his first kick of the tournament.

    Scotland v Ireland (15:00)

Scotland have two wins and a defeat to France under their belts so far.

But even in Paris they played really well and probably should have won the game if they had converted their chances.

Their recent record against Ireland is woeful, though. So will Scotland start quickly and put their visitors under some pressure?

The Irish team will come over here with a huge amount of expectation. Their tails are up. They have a Grand Slam in their sights but will have to weather the storm as Scotland go for the Triple Crown.

    Scotland v Ireland (15:00)

If Scotland are to win today, they will almost certainly need Finn Russell to control proceedings from 10.

He has had a stellar tournament so far, and according to Opta had the greatest impact of any player in the Championship in the first three rounds of fixtures.

  10. Scotland must 'improve again'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2023

    Scotland v Ireland (15:00)

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has been talking to BBC Scotland ahead of kick-off at a sun-bathed Murrayfield.

He said: "It's warmer than Paris! What an occasion, both teams want dry weather and want to play rugby today.

"You've got to take your game to the opposition in attack and defence - we know they're going to have a lot of ball, so we've got to put our best defensive performance out there.

"When we get opportunities in attack, we've got to play the rugby we've been playing and that will cause them problems.

"We should have come away with a win last week, and the players know we have to improve again from that game."

  11. 'Expecation to deliver' - Farrellpublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2023

    Scotland v Ireland (15:00)

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has been talking to BBC One ahead of kick-off.

"The proof is in the pudding. We are here now and there is an expectation that we want to deliver. That brings its own pressure and it is all about delivering.

"[On how Ireland can win] By concentrating and taking our game to them. They have threats all over the field and play some fantastic rugby. There is an expectation on ourselves, first and foremost.

"It takes all sorts to win a championship and we expect it to be blustery out there, with some rain every now and again."

I think this is a tough one to call. Ireland are going for the Grand Slam but Scotland are going into the game all guns blazing and can win the Triple Crown. I think Ireland have a bit more than Scotland. If both teams come out and play to their best I think Ireland will come out on top.

  13. Big hitters backpublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2023

    Scotland v Ireland (15:00)

What's arguably most impressive about Ireland's campaign so far is the fact they've won their games without - arguably - their strongest starting XV available.

Johnny Sexton and Tadgh Furlong are just two of the big guns to come back into the starting side today. Andy Farrell has a lot of depth to pick from.

As an aside, I'm really looking forward to watching number eight Caelan Dorris. He's some player.

  14. Try fest?published at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2023

    Scotland v Ireland (15:00)

Ireland have scored four or more tries in each of their past six matches, the longest such run by any team in Six Nations history.

Scotland have the joint-highest tackle success rate so far (90%) having missed the fewest tackles of any side (55), while they have also conceded a low of 10 line breaks this campaign.

    Something has to give.

  15. Hogg hits 100published at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2023

    Scotland v Ireland (15:00)

It's a special day for Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg as he earns his 100th cap.

Already his country's leading try scorer, the Hawick native joins Chris Paterson, Sean Lamont, and Ross Ford as Scottish male centurions.

He's symbolised so much of Scotland's improvement in the last decade, particularly in attack. He has some highlights reel.

  19. Scotland's best this century v Ireland's greatest?published at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2023

    Scotland v Ireland (15:00)

Scotland's performances in this tournament have given people the chance to put them up there as the best Scottish side since the Six Nations began.

Admittedly it's not a high bar, but significant nonetheless.

Meanwhile with a series win in New Zealand under their belt, an unbeaten Autumn and Six Nations so far, and a ranking of world number one, many in Ireland are pitching this side as their best ever.

That's what makes it a compelling contest. More on that here.

    John Barclay
Former Scotland captain on BBC One

A Triple Crown would be massive - this team have been knocking on the door for several years, but a win today would provide something tangible for their efforts.

To beat the number one team in the world would be really special.
