Former South Africa winger Bryan Habana speaking to ITV: “That’s as colossal, as gladiatorial and unbelievable as I’ve ever seen a Springbok team go.

"They dug deeper than a Springbok team has ever dug to come out against an unbelievable French side.

"It was as special as it comes.”

You'd have to have a heart of stone to not feel for France. They were so good for so long, and that opening 40 minutes will live long in the memory.

Gregory Alldritt made nine tackles in that game, the most in a France shirt.

Seven players for South Africa made 10 or more, with Franco Mostert top of the lot with 14. Huge numbers, massive effort.

Well done Springboks, but you have to feel sorry for France, they don't deserve to go out of a fantastic World Cup that they have been doing a brilliant job of hosting.

Antoine Dupont can't believe it. It seemed destined for France to win on home soil, as their footballers did 25 years ago. But South Africa had other ideas.

This is one of the most titanic clashes I have ever seen. The French were gallant and almost unstoppable. South Africa found an inkling of something, these warriors of men thanking each other for an amazing match.

It brings a tear to the eye.

France managed just six points in the second half as a three-point lead turned into a one-point, heartbreaking exit.

The Stade de France took the heart of Johnny Sexton last night and it adds its own nation to the list 24 hours later.

    Gripping.

Good to know the entire Northern Hemisphere will be united in supporting England. Right?

Shocked silence in the Stade de France. South Africa showing the true hearts of champions tonight.

What a phenomenal effort, what a game of rugby.

Elite sport at its very best. Hopes and dreams of millions on a knife edge. There's a scrum 10m from the French line. They need to get right up the other end and score.

Can they get down the field and score in the time left?!
