Yep, bold early calls from Jacques Nienaber but they may be paying off. South Africa are coming to life.

They need points though.

It's amazing how South Africa have upped the tempo since their substitutions, Faf de Klerk is a distributor and is already getting involved in the quick play.

Better from South Africa, who go through seven or eight phases but a huge roar rings out as referee Ben O'Keefe pings Kwagga Smith for holding on.

Matthieu Jalibert boots the ball downfield, except he slices it at a right-angle like a rookie on the first tee. Dear oh dear. Pressure anyone?

France have had 84% of territory since the break and if they can keep that up then even a six-point lead starts to look impregnable. Of course, South Africa sliced through every time they attacked in the first half. There's been no signs of that yet in the second period though.

The champions won't panic. Of that we can be sure.

The first points of the second half come from the trusty boot of full-back Thomas Ramos, swung through the middle as easy as you like.

France have a penalty advantage, nearly wriggle free in the far corner but again South Africa defend it superbly. The hosts choose to kick it.

They really emptied the tanks in that first 40 minutes. This second half has been more of a slog than a sensation but the tension is obviously adding to that.

France have a scrum in a good area as Freddie Mercury works up the crowd.

The intensity of the first half effort really took it out of South Africa - they've now made seven changes in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

No hat-trick for prop Cyril Baille as he's replaced in the first French interchange. We await the first points of the half.

It's very early for the substitutions, it sounded like they are pressing the panic button. South Africa had some preconceived changes they were going to make whatever happened.

Also a lovely French welcome back for Eben Etzebeth as he comes back on.

Matthieu Jalibert dances round a tackle like it's not there but South Africa regroup and rebuild superbly. Eben Etzebeth is back on so we are 15 v 15 again.

Any follow-up is never as good is it - this second half is the Extras to the first-half's Office so far. But there's still the potential for gold. Perhaps Faf de Klerk can add a Winslet-esque performance.

France come down the left this time but South Africa defend manfully.

South Africa skipper Siya Kolisi is now replaced. That's interesting too - big calls early on from South Africa in this second half.

Great intensity from South Africa in defence again, captain Siya Kolisi is in the thick of it and wins a penalty for his side.

Interesting, and bold subs from South Africa. Faf de Klerk and Handre Pollard are on at 9 & 10 for South Africa, while RG Snyman replaces Franco Mostert.

France turn the ball over and once again cut through a line of green like rice paper. It's opening up but South Africa defend the line well and force a rare handling error from Damian Penaud.
