  1. try

Try - Ireland 12-13 Samoapublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Conor Murray (51 mins)

    Out of nothing!

Murray looks a bit lost off the back of a maul but he finds Stockdale. The winger does his trademark chip and Murray was first to it and he dives over the line.

    Great try!

Jack Crowley misses the conversion and Samoa still lead by a point, but that's much better from Ireland.

  2. Replacementpublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Ireland 7-13 Samoa

Tom Stewart makes way for Ulster team-mate Rob Herring to bring his first start to an end.

Not the easiest start for the youngster but Herring will bring plenty of experience to the Irish forward pack.

Samoa are winning the physical battle at the minute.

They are running straight and hard and they are breaking the gain-line repeatedly with their direct approach.

There may not be much deception or subtlety in terms of fancy backs moves, but it's working.

They are also putting in a massive defensive performance, winning collisions and knocking Ireland back.

Ireland aren't used to this. It has been a bruising encounter but Samoa have been disciplined and all the hard shots have been legal.

  4. Postpublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Ireland 7-13 Samoa

Jacob Stockdale looks to drive his way into the Samoan 22 but he has managed to lose the ball in contact.

Jimmy O'Brien is in some discomfort after being hit by two blue jerseys earlier in the play. He's going to continue but he's looking a bit fragile.

  5. Postpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Ireland 7-13 Samoa

Crowley chips the ball into the 22 but the chase is non-existent and Samoa are able to clear once again.

How much is the looming squad announcement playing on the minds of the Irish players?

  6. Penalty - Ireland 7-13 Samoapublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Lima Sopoaga (46 mins)

And they win a penalty right under the posts.

Lima Sopoaga points to the sticks and this should be straightforward, and is.

Samoa's lead is up to six.

  8. 'Can Samoa turn the screw in the second half?'published at 20:48 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Ireland 7-10 Samoa

    Conor McNamara

Samoa have definitely done their homework on Ireland and have given them difficulty at the set-piece and the breakdown. It was a big first half from them.

A win this evening would make the world sit up and take notice of this Samoa team.

They have been in good form and have won three of their past four games and they are on course for another win tonight if Ireland can't match their intensity after the break.

This is a big second half for them and the question will be whether they can turn the screw and continue to make Ireland sweat.

It's certainly been a strange weekend so far. You've seen New Zealand getting absolutely thrashed by South Africa last night and Fiji beating England today.

Samoa having a brilliant account for themselves here so far, Ireland will have it all to do.

On the plus side, Ireland have won a line out.

On the down side, there's more handling errors and Ireland can't get out of their own half.

    Let's look at the positives.

The white kit is lovely and Jack Crowley is playing very, very well.

    Ireland 7-10 Samoa

    Well, well, well.

The rain in Bayonne is summing up the Irish mood.

They started so well, but losing Cian Healy to injury and Samoa's fightback means it's been 40 minutes to forget.

  16. Penalty - Ireland 7-10 Samoapublished at 20:29 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Lima Sopoaga (41 mins)

Lima Sopoaga, just like with the conversion, splits the posts and Samoa lead at the break!

    Well, who predicted this?

Samoa have a scrum as we go into the red...and they win a penalty just outside the 22!

  18. 'Samoa are disrupting Ireland's lineout'published at 20:26 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Ireland 7-7 Samoa

    Philippa Tuttiett
Former Wales international on Amazon Prime

Samoa have done a great job of disrupting the Ireland line-out which is often a great weapon for them.

They are getting men up and competing and Ireland have now lost three lineouts which has allowed Samoa to get out of trouble and clear their lines on a few occasions.

Of course, it will increasingly add pressure and rattle Ireland and potentially young Tom Stewart on his first start the more the lineout malfunctions.

  19. 'A huge lift for Samoa'published at 20:26 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Ireland 7-7 Samoa

    Donal Lenihan
Former Ireland lock on RTE Sport

    Well, it's game on now.

A typical try of an evening like this, the conditions are not great, but either way it doesn't matter, Samoa have the seven points on the board and with half-time approaching it's a huge lift for them.

  20. try

Converted try - Ireland 7-7 Samoapublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Duncan Paia'aua (36 mins)

It's a try to sum up the half.

Ireland look to work the ball wide through Stuart McCloskey but his pass smashes off the face of Duncan Paia'aua on the Samoan 22.

The full back then collects the bouncing ball and races clear to score. It's a bit lucky but Samoa deserve it.

Lima Sopoaga converts and we're level!
