    Glasgow 5-0 Northampton

Tommy Freeman throws a dummy after Northampton create an overlap down the left-hand side, and Glasgow then cough up a penalty in their own 22.

Saints kick to the corner, and have a great chance to hit back, but the lineout goes astray and Sean Kennedy belts the ball downfield.

    Clermont 0-0 Edinburgh

First scrum of the night and it results in an Edinburgh penalty. Cammy Scott tries to find touch but went for every inch of territory and instead, couldn't find touch.

Edinburgh get the ball back and it's the first chance for Scott to conjure something... his pass to Duhan van der Merwe goes to ground though. Some early nerves from the young man.

    Glasgow 5-0 Northampton

The first penalty of the night goes Glasgow's way, as the hosts get a bit of a nudge on at scrum time.

However, Courtney Lawes gets up superbly to pinch the lineout for Northampton.

    Clermont 0-0 Edinburgh

Another big hit from Harry Paterson but this time, the Clermont attacker is in the air. Just a penalty, no card.

Edinburgh have kicked the ball a lot in the first five minutes.

He took the gamble didn't he, Mitchell? Cancelliere doesn't actually come up, he just stands in the channel and the ball is passed straight to him.

He's a great guy to watch. He always does something with ball in hand and you can't ask for more than a try.

Try GLASGOW 5-0 Northamptonpublished at 4 mins

    Sebastian Cancelliere

A brilliant read from the Argentine winger, and Glasgow lead early on.

It's a shocker from Northampton scrum-half Alex Mitchell, who looks to go wide to George Hendy, but only finds Glasgow's number 14.

He pins his ears back to score in the corner, before Tom Jordan drags his conversion attempt wide.

Glasgow are looking to run it at every opportunity despite the slightly unfavourable conditions.

    Clermont 0-0 Edinburgh

And we are underway in the heart of France, with Edinburgh in their orange and white away kit.

It's a loud, noisy atmosphere already and Harry Paterson sets the tone by flying into a tackle on a kick-chase. That's the stuff.

The home form is outstanding at Scotstoun for Glasgow.

Northampton play a very similar style of rugby to Glasgow, sometimes a little bit loose but stronger in defence.

    Glasgow v Northampton (20:00)

    Graham McKechnie
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

There is a real opportunity for Saints this year, the draw has been relatively kind to them.

The way they have played against Saracens and Exeter, the defence was absolutely rock solid. The sides that do well in Europe are the sides with solid defences.

  14. 'Our effort and intent has to be the same as last week'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    Glasgow v Northampton (20:00)

Northampton director of rugby Phil Dowson on TNT: "We're excited. One of the key things for us in recent season has been consistency. We need to be as good [as against Saracens] if not better tonight.

"Across the board we've been confident with changing people in and out, I'm happy with the group overall.

"They've got a great home record, tonnes of threats across the park. Our effort and intent will have to be the same as last week."

  15. Smith calls for accuracypublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    Glasgow v Northampton (20:00)

Glasgow head coach Franco Smith has been talking to TNT Sports: "Especially in the [Challenge Cup] final last year we got caught out not being accurate from the start, so hopefully we can learn from that.

"Obviously the team we're facing are a quality side, and they play a positive brand.

"Hopefully the surface helps to keep the ball dry enough that we can handle it well.

"We're still on our journey and hopefully tonight is another step in the right direction."

  16. 'Glasgow should still be favourites'published at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Glasgow Warriors v Northampton Saints (20:00)

    Rory Lawson
Former Scotland captain on BBC Radio Scotland

It's a big challenge for Glasgow. They're coming up against a Northampton side who turned over Saracens last week. They've evolved their game from last year.

Last season it was almost a 'Kevin Keegan' approach. We'll score five tries, don't care if you score four. This year they've built a stronger defence. They score fewer tries but they are much harder to break down.

On nights like this, you have to get your meat and drink right, the bones of your game, your set piece and game management and take your opportunities when they present themselves.

It's a big step up when you go to the Champions Cup; it's the cream of the crop. You've got to win your home games and get out the blocks quickly.

Glasgow are a tremendous team, playing with confidence. They're missing a few guys, but with the depth they have and the backing of the Scotstoun crowd, they should still be favourites.

  17. Clermont name full strength sidepublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    Clermont v Edinburgh (20:00)

Clermont have named 12 internationals - including two Australians and an All Black - in their starting XV to host Edinburgh on Friday night.

French prop Etienne Falgoux captains the side, with half-backs Sebastian Bezy and Anthony Belleau both having represented Les Blues before, as well as Julien Heriteau.

Rob Simmons and Folau Fainga'a both missed out on Australia's disastrous World Cup, with Pita Gus Sowakula involved for New Zealand in the 2022 summer Tests.

Thomas Lavanini was part of the Argentina side that impressed in France, while Bautisra Delguy played in the recent Rugby Championship for Los Pumas.

  18. Scott headlines seven Edinburgh changespublished at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    Clermont v Edinburgh (20:00)

The big Edinburgh team news is that Cammy Scott will make his first professional appearance at fly-half this evening. The 22-year-old has just one previous pro start to his name, when he was named at fullback in the opening-day URC victory over Dragons.

There are six other changes. Robin Hislop and Javan Sebastian come into the front row, and Hamish Watson makes his full return from injury having come off the bench last weekend.

In the backs, Duhan van der Merwe recovers from a small knock and Chris Dean partners Mark Bennett in the centres.

Ben Healy is among the Scotland stars rested, alongside Pierre Schoeman, WP Nel, Grant Gilchrist and Jamie Ritchie. Ali Price is out with a knock that Edinburgh are "not too concerned" about, according to coach Rob Chrystie.

  19. Lawes and Mitchell start for Saintspublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

    Glasgow v Northampton (20:00)

England scrum-half Alex Mitchell comes into the Northampton side that face Glasgow in Champions Cup action on Friday night at Scotstoun.

The other change in the backs sees youngster George Hendy come in for Tom Seabrook who drops to the bench.

England internationals Curtis Langdon and Paul Hill pack down in the front row, with Tom Lockett and Alexander Moon behind them. Angus Scott-Young is the other change in the forwards

England lock Alex Coles, who started the win over Saracens last week, misses out. He has been linked with a move north and a change of international allegiance to Scotland.

Fin Smith starts at fly-half, Scottish-qualified through his grandfather, British and Irish Lion and Scotland cap, Tom Elliot. Fraser Dingwall, who could also play for Scotland, starts at inside centre.
