Three reds near the cushion, as is the cueball, with the blue, black and green all over the place. Messy.

Mark Allen has been playing some nice stuff early on and this superb treble, from frame three, is certainly worth another look.

Frame 4: Mark Allen 1-2 Kyren Wilson

This is the longest frame of the match, by a long way. Both players have had chances and Wilson has just put 20 on the board, but failed to finish it off. It is 35-31 and there is still a lot of mileage left in frame four.

The frames are following a similar pattern so far. Mark Allen is getting in first, but isn't making enough points to finish the frame off in one attempt.

    That will sting.

OK, I'll leave off the wasp puns (for now, anyway).

An attempted pink into the middle stays out from Allen. Wilson had missed a similar attempt on the same colour into the same pocket earlier on in the match. That Allen error brings him back in action, trailing 35-11 in the fourth.

Frame 4: Mark Allen 1-2 Kyren Wilson

We have had a few wasps at this Masters. Now we have another one. The referee intervenes and it doesn't last long. 25-11 to Allen at the moment, who will be buzzing if he can win this frame.

Frame 4: Mark Allen 1-2 Kyren Wilson

This frame is certainly going to take some negotiating. We have had three quick frames, with breaks of at least 50 in each one, now let's see how good their safety games are.

In this frame we are seeing another side to the game. Both players are great break builders, as we have said, but they are also very good safety players.

Fair to say frame four is a bit on the messy side.

Frame 3: Mark Allen 1-2 Kyren Wilson

    Dennis Taylor
1985 world champion on BBC Two

We saw the first little sign of tension from Mark Allen in that frame. He didn't cue very well on that missed red, leaving Kyren Wilson with a chance. The smoother waistcoat seems to be helping Kyren, so that change has paid dividends.

Frame 3: Mark Allen 1-2 Kyren Wilson

    Steve Davis
Six-time UK champion on BBC Two

Kyren Wilson was presented with a chance and did very well to get the balls in the holes. He didn't have great control of the cue ball, but did well. Both players haven't settled down yet. It will be interesting to see how the next frame goes.

  14. Wilson punishes Allen misspublished at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

    Frame 3: Mark Allen 1-2 Kyren Wilson (50-63, Allen 49, Wilson 52)

Ouch. That one will hurt. Mark Allen has thrown frame three away. He was 50-11 up, on a break of 49, but a miss on the red comes back to haunt him. Wilson rattles in a break of 52 to win the frame. That also maintains our run of a break of at least 50 in each frame.

The waistcoat change works for Wilson, who leads 2-1.

Simon G‏: I wouldn't mind if Ronnie O'Sullivan missed World Championships. Not a fan of his but of course I can't deny he is a good player but hyped too much by @BBCSnooker, external & other media even when he is no longer in tournaments. The sport would be more than fine without him. As the 2 players in the (so far great) final today are showing and others have this week and in other tournaments. As Barry Hearn said the game is not about just one player.

Frame 3: Mark Allen 1-1 Kyren Wilson

This would be some steal from Wilson, who came to the table 50-11 behind. 50-38 at the moment.

  17. Postpublished at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

Frame 3: Mark Allen 1-1 Kyren Wilson

We should have the third half-century break of this final in only three frames. Well, that's what should happen.

Mark Allen, on 49, is aiming for a red into the corner, but misses it, and just like frame one, has not punished a Wilson miss. 50-11

  18. Postpublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

Frame 3: Mark Allen 1-1 Kyren Wilson

And on into frame three we go. Mark Allen pots a red, then lets Kyren Wilson have a go. He makes 11 and misses a red with the rest. Careless. Back to his seat he goes. 1-11.

  20. 'Frame rested on pink that drifted off line'published at 14:15 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

Frame 2: Mark Allen 1-1 Kyren Wilson

    Dennis Taylor
1985 world champion on BBC Two

That was a very important frame. It rested on a pink to the middle. It looked like it was going in the pocket and then drifted off and hit the jaw.

It is very interesting to see Kyren changing waistcoat between frames. I have never seen that before in a final in all my time.
