"There is just something about Andy Murray in a Great Britain shirt. He really sees himself as team leader and wants to win all three of the matches he is involved in to leave nothing to chance."

The players are introduced to the crowd, James Ward enjoying milking it a bit, and then some lusty singing accompanies the anthems - we're ready to go. "I think this match wins the tie ," says John Lloyd on BBC One. Gulp.

Times tennis correspondent Neil Harman on BBC Radio 5 live: "It would be quite extraordinary if we could get a 2-1 lead going into the reverse singles. This is the most important doubles match we have had in British tennis for some time.

"Andy Murray and Colin Fleming is a relative novice pairing compared to Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini, but if you go back in the junior record books in Scotland there is some pedigree there. They know each others' games."

Great news, everyone, we're getting an opening ceremony! Friday's rain meant it had been cancelled, we thought, but apparently it was just postponed. That will obviously delay the first ball being struck, but we will get to see some flag-raising and anthem-singing. Here come the teams...

"Andy Murray and Colin Fleming played together and won in Umag in Croatia in September when Great Britain secured their place back in the World Group. It is tough on Ross Hutchins who has dropped out to make way for Murray. I think he and Colin Fleming would have had a decent shot of winning the doubles, but Murray's presence increases Britain's chances substantially.

"Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli are not to be taken lightly, but they played together in Miami recently, losing in the first round, and Leon Smith was quite happy with what he saw on that occasion."

  7. Italy 1-1 Great Britainpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 5 April 2014

For those of you otherwise engaged on a Saturday morning, the reason we are locked at 1-1 in the tie is that Murray earlier finished off his match against Andreas Seppi that had been halted last night because of failing light. The Scot spent 75 minutes wrapping up a 6-4 7-5 6-3 victory that was probably more draining than the score would suggest. "I was a little bit tired when I got up but once the match got going, I felt OK," Murray told BBC Sport.

"Colin and Andy played Montreal together last year, they played Davis Cup in Umag. I'm sure they'll be able to gel pretty quickly. They will have conversations about tactics, and as the match progresses they will see tendencies their opponents have and work around that."

The doubles is often the most crucial tie of a Davis Cup weekend, and the hardest to pick. Regular doubles teams can come up against scratch pairings, with some of the world's leading players making rare forays into the team game in service of their countries. That's what we have in Naples, although both pairings at least know each other well.

Murray and Fleming have been friends since they were kids, under the early tutelage of Judy Murray, and they won their only previous Davis Cup outing together against Croatia last year. Fognini and Bolelli have a 3-0 Davis Cup record, including the last two ties against Argentina and Croatia. More ominously, they also have an Australian Open semi-final and an ATP title to their names.

One very notable feature from the first two days has been the size of the British support in Naples, which has regularly outdone the home crowd in the singing stakes. If you haven't been able to wangle a trip to southern Italy, I am contractually bound to remind you that coverage is available via BBC One and 5 live sports extra.

Welcome back, hopefully you have stockpiled sufficient provisions for an afternoon of nerve-jangling, gut wrenching and completely unpredictable action. The big news is that, with tie locked at 1-1, both team captains have drafted in their big guns for the potentially decisive doubles. Wimbledon champion Andy Murray will line up alongside Colin Fleming, while across the net world number 13 Fabio Fognini teams up with Simone Bolelli. Play should get under way at 13:15 BST.

We thought it was something of a done-deal that Andy Murray would replace Ross Hutchins in the afternoon doubles. It seems there is still some discussions to be had about that though. I reckon Leon Smith will be asking Ross Hutchins if he doesn't mind awfully stepping aside and letting the number one having a hit alongside Colin Fleming.

The doubles should get under way some time around 13:00 BST. If Murray or Seppi is involved, it could be a little later. Either way we will back well before the start of that potentially vital rubber, but in the mean time the best place to stay up to date on the schedule is on the BBC Tennis Twitter feed., external

    Bye for now.

Andy Murray speaking to BBC Sport: "The last few games went quite quick, but it was a long first few games today and the start of the third set was hard. It was good to get it done in straight sets and now at least I can be an option for the doubles if Leon Smith wants me.

"It is not necessarily my decision I will speak to Leon, to the doctor because I have been a bit ill and the doubles guys, because if they are sure they are going to get the job done then it might be better if they take it on.

"For the most part the court is ok. There are a few bad bounces, but that back corner is not good enough. It is dangerous. If this was on the tour they would not be using this court, that is something we will talk about after the tie because the last thing you want is for people to be injured. It doesn't need to be like that."

"The last two games were absolutely clinical; great serves, returning fantastic, turning the screw with his groundstrokes and he doesn't look like he's going to miss. Exceptional. Now he's got to take care of his recovery - a warm-down, protein shakes a good meal."

    Job done.

Andy Murray is romping now. Even when he loses points, he is demanding pinpoint precision from Andreas Seppi or missing clever angles by millimetres. Seppi is clinging on by his fingernails at 30-30, but Murray stomps out the dying embers of his challenge and he punches a double backhand out to clinch the second singles rubber.

There are three other Davis Cup quarter-finals under way across the globe and we already have one semi-finalist. Defending champions the Czech Republic, without Tomas Berdych, have taken a 3-0 lead over Japan, without Kei Nishikori in Tokyo.

A big shock is developing in Nancy where Germany, without their top four players, lead France 2-0 after the little-known Peter Gojowczyk beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in five sets. And the winner in Naples will face Switzerland or Kazakhstan, who are tied at 1-1 in Geneva after Andrey Golubev stunned Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka. Make that one hold away from levelling the tie. Andy Murray can sniff his stable and dusts off a love service game to send the balls back up Andreas Seppi's end. The spotlight is also back on the Italian, can he keep the surging Murray at bay?
