    First off, the forecast.

After the heavy rain of yesterday morning, there are more ominous blue blobs on the satellite screens.

Naples Tennis Club is basking in some spring sunshine at the moment but we are looking at some sporadic showers up until midday local time (11:00 BST) followed by a four-hour window of fine weather and then a little bit more rain.

The backcourt was breaking up like crumble topping yesterday, it will need nursing through today. Expect stoppages.

When Friday's action finally got underway James Ward gave Fabio Fognini a mini-scare, walloping the fuzz off the ball, taking the second set but ultimately succumbing in four.

Great Britain captain Leon Smith had perhaps not expected to take anything from that one - Britain's lower-ranked singles player against Italy's top man - but, as ever, he needs Andy Murray to come through strong for him today.

The Wimbledon champion saw off four set points in the final game in the gloom last night against Andreas Seppi and may well choose to take on this afternoon's doubles match, replacing friend Ross Hutchins as Colin Fleming's partner.

Welcome to day two of the Davis Cup quarter-final between Great Britain and Italy.

We still have a little of day one's action hanging over into the weekend however with rain delays and failing light meaning that Andy Murray will resume his singles rubber against Andreas Seppi leading 6-4 5-5.
