  1. Murray into the third roundpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 29 May 2014

Marinko Matosevic's reprieve is a brief one. Andy Murray races to 0-40 before applying the killer blow with a backhand right out of the middle of the strings onto the whitewash.

Murray offers a consoling pat on the back for his opponent at the net. His first appearance in the second round of a Grand Slam, and the £20,000 that goes with it, should help ease the pain of defeat.

"A little bit sloppy from Andy, he won't be happy with himself for passing up that service game when he was serving for the match."

Well, well. Marinko Matosevic reels in his first break point of the match, thumping away a backhand winner from 30-40 after Andy Murray's first serve gets cosy with the net. Surely just a temporary hold-up?

Yep, one more game at least. Marinko Matosevic holds to love, but I think Andy Murray was just giving him a freebie while he took a breather for the final push.

Philipp Kohlschreiber is awaiting in the next round for the winner of this one - having seen off Denis Istomin in straight sets on Court Six.

Barring a Devon Loch-style meltdown it will be Andy Murray. The Scot might as well have a napkin tucked into his collar, considering the relish with which he tucks into a Marinko Matosevic second serve. Murray is almost up on the service line by the time he cracks a rifled backhand winner away to set up break point.

Matosevic screws wide in the next rally. Stick a fork in this one, it's done.

Alen in Swindon: I turned up to an Irish friend's wedding last year and remarked that a "big guy over there looks like Greg Rusedski." They're not big on tennis in Ireland and had no idea who I meant, but they believed the guy's name was, indeed, Greg. Turns out, he was a family friend of the bride.

"It's interesting that Amelie Mauresmo is being linked with the job as Andy's next coach. I've certainly not seen her at this match today. I think Andy enjoys having the power and the fact the press are left guessing who it might be."

"Andy Murray seems to have his timing spot on today - even when he returns the ball and he is air-borne, he maintains his control. He has a spring in his step out there now."

Andy Murray is heaving at the Marinko Matosevic serve, trying to topple it for a perhaps decisive time.

Back and forth they bounce around deuce, with Murray bouncing into groundstrokes and volleys to get the required purchase on his shots. Break point saved as Matosevic cranks up and unloads off his serve. And another recovered with a floaty drop-shot that catches Murray on his heels and behind the baseline.

The clock ticks past 13 minutes as another Matosevic firecracker of serve saves him. His grasp on the game is finally prised loose though as the Australian unfurls the drop-shot again and gets it horribly wrong. The ball barely gets past his own toes. Matosevic growls with frustration and that could be the last of him.

"Matosevic has thoroughly tested out Murray's backhand return off the second serve, routinely seeing it thumped back past him and then describing his own tactic in fairly industrial language. It might be time for a new gameplan. A "good shot mate" from Murray is little comfort as the Wimbledon champ takes the second set with a second-serve ace."
