  1. Fabio Fognini wins the first setpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 31 May 2014

Gael Monfils clawed back the early break, but coughed up another at the end of the set to allow the advantage to slip back to Fabio Fognini.

The crowd at the French Open get a little 'partisan' to say the least. If Court Suzanne Lenglen get in the ear of Fognini, then he is not the type to turn the other cheek.

Here is his mixing it with some of the British fans at their recent Davis Cup tie.

The French Open organisers take a laissez-faire attitude to the 35-hour working week. As well as playing through the middle Sunday that Wimbledon rests on, they have 11:00 starts on show and outside courts alike.

We have already had a raft of results for you to ponder over.

Top of the bulletins is the demise of fifth seed Petra Kvitova who has been toppled 6-7 (3-7) 6-1 9-7 by 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova. With Serena Williams, Li Na and Agnieszka Radwanska already biting the dust that means that fourth seed Simona Halep, a 6-0 6-3 winner over Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor, is the only one of the top five women remaining in the draw.

Right now on Court Philippe Chatrier - the prestige pitch - we have eight-time champion Rafael Nadal in third-round action. Argentina's Leonardo Mayer, ranked 65th in the world, is the latest to throw himself into the path of the Spanish steamroller in the hope of causing an upset.

It has been usual service so far with Nadal breaking for a 3-1 lead in the first set.

Over on Court Suzanne Lenglen, hometown favourite Gael Monfils is taking on the stereotypically-combustable Italian Fabio Fognini. Fognini, an outside bet for the title, leads 5-3 in the first set with a single break of serve.

Elsewhere former Jelena Jankovic is a set up on Romania's Sorana Cirstea, while Italy's Sara Errani has completed a 51-minute 6-0 6-1 win over Julia Glushko.

Andy Murray is on the ground at Roland Garros, hacking his way through hordes of autograph-hunters on his way back from the practice courts.

The British number one still has a bit of a wait before his third-round match against Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber though.

His is one of the last matches on court in an already-intriguing day in the French capital.
