    So what have we learned from the first day of Wimbledon? Well Andy Murray is certainly in good form, as is top seed Novak Djokovic, the strength and depth of British tennis needs some work and I should have known better than to take my umbrella out of my bag to save weight. The court is covered in super-quick time and the stadium begins to empty quickly. It's been a long day - seven hours in fact - if you've sat on that court for the duration.

    Dominika Cibulkova beats Aleksandra Wozniak 6-1 6-2 to bring an end to play on Centre Court.

    Jurgen Melzer wishes that was the case out on Court One in his match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The Austrian pleads with the umpire to stop play because of bad play, but he is having none of it.

    The stadium is filling up, if anything, as spectators who have got tickets through the resale pile in.

    "Did it!!!!" That's Russia's Maria Kirilenko,, external getting straight to the point after causing an upset by beating American 18th seed Sloane Stephens in the first round earlier.

    South African 20th seed Kevin Anderson,, external on the other hand, is slightly wordier after beating Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia to reach round two: "Played a good match today! There was some nice South African support out there! Very happy to be through to the second round at Wimbledon."

    It's been a day of highs and lows for the Brits with Andy Murray beginning the defence of his title with a comfortable win over David Goffin while British number four Naomi Broady sprung a surprise with a three-set win over Hungary's Timea Babos.

    There was not such good news for James Ward, Dan Cox, Kyle Edmund, Johanna Konta and Dan Evans who all lost.

    Four more Brits will be in action on Tuesday. British number one Heather Watson, who reached the semi-finals in Eastbourne, begins her campaign against Ajla Tomljanovic, along with compatriots Daniel Smethurst, Samantha Murray and Tara Moore.

All of the attention gets focused on two weeks at Wimbledon, but throughout the year, everyone is playing Future (tournaments) or Challengers. The wildcard is great as a stepping stone to breakthrough. If someone did make the fourth round, it's huge points, which boosts their rankings and helps them get through to other tournaments."
