Venus Williams' mum Oracene Price is on court three to watch her daughter in action. She has not been able to get up for a post-set stretch because Kurumi Nara has pulled herself back from the brink, breaking for 5-5

"These forehands from Venus Williams are hit with such venom. I played Venus in 2008 in the second round - my first experience of Centre Court. I lost the game, and I just remember how hard Venus hit the ball. Up until then, I'd never played anyone who hit the ball as hard as she did. There's an intimidation factor involved in playing here as well; she's a player I looked up to when I was growing up. Having said that, it was more intimidating playing Venus and Serena together on the doubles circuit."

"The most impressive part about Li Na's game so far has been her serve. That is something she has improved on since working with Carlos Rodriguez. She used to be a bit tight on the serve and she has now got her rhythm going well."

  4. Game and first setpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Li Na is ploughing through Yvonne Meusburger. The Chinese second seed leads 6-2 1-0.

Elsewhere Venus Williams is serving for the first set at 5-4 up on Kurumi Nara.

"Wacky Wednesday", "weird Wednesday", "complete and utter carnage" - whatever you wanted to call it this day at Wimbledon 2013 was a notable one.

In the men's draw, Roger Federer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki were all fallers.

Both literally and metaphorically. It was the day when the players were sliding around like they were on lino.

Winning the American university championships last year is arguably the highlight of Blaz Rola's skinny CV.

    Which got us thinking.

What is the peak of your own tennis career? Maybe it was landing your first and last genuine ace. Or pulling off a between-the-legs hot-dog trick-shot without damaging your chances of having children. Or catching a too-eager teacher with a bulleted forehand to the ribs as he came to the net.

"We've known about Grigor's potential for many years and the pieces of the puzzle are coming together. He is stronger and fitter than he was before, helped by his coach Roger Rasheed, and mentally, he believes and we are starting to see that come together too."

As today's guest of honour the Duchess of Cornwall shoots the breeze with some of the off-duty ball boys and girls, action is already under way on the outside courts.

Second seed Li Na is 2-1 down but on serve against Yvonne Meusburger on court two.

Five-time champion Venus Williams has conceded an early break, trailing Japan's Kurumi Nara 2-0 on court three.

The early start has not been to Ernests Gulbis's liking so far - the Latvian is 3-1 down to Sergiy Stakhovsky.

Here are some revellers at Reading festival. Upturned portaloos and bonfire of burning plastic just out of shot.

Oh.... no. On closer inspection it is the queue snaking its way around Wimbledon park.

    Mark Petchey
    BBC Sport commentator

"In his first match against David Goffin, Andy hit the ball as well as I've seen him play all year. His record is good against left-handers and it fits into his style of play. James Ward, who has played Blaz Rola before, has given his coach Amelie Mauresmo some advice.

"Given his experience and style of play, Andy doesn't need to worry about Rola as long as he puts his own game out there. Rola has to be optimistic but, let's be honest, the way Andy started on Monday he is the overwhelming favourite."

Former British number one on BBC TV

"When Andy is proactive, rather than reactive, that is when he plays his best tennis. He timed the ball impeccably against David Goffin and that is a good sign."

    Brits ahoy...

Three-quarters of court eight will be British this morning where Jamie Murray and his Australian doubles partner John Peers takes on Dan Evans and James Ward.

On court four brothers Ken and Neal Skupski are taking on Dustin Brown and Jan-Lennard Struff.

Jonathan Marray, who won the gent's doubles with Frederik Nielsen back in 2012, is back involved. John-Patrick Smith of Australia is his partner this year.

There is a chance to get seriously patriotic - I'm thinking Last Night of the Proms levels - when Tara Moore, British number four and world number 250, resumes at one set all against Russian 2010 finalist Vera Zvonerava second on court two.

On the same court former world number one Caroline Wozniacki, who has been giving short shrift to gentle questions about her split from fiance Rory McIlroy this week, takes on Britain's Naomi Broady.

Eighth seed Victoria Azarenka against Bojana Jovanovski could get interesting out on court three.

    Hippo

"There's a bubbly atmosphere in the queue this morning, with fans soaking up the sunshine as they edge towards the security check ahead of entry to the grounds.

"They're met by offers of free water, coffee and cereal bars as well as this giant hippo, which has been decorated with tennis balls and the purple and green colours of Wimbledon."

Is hippo roast, the new hog roast?

    Jo Wilfried TsongaImage source, AP

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is the life and soul of the Grand Slam party. Unfortunately he tends to exit before the lights come up to reveal who has paired off with the trophy. The Frenchman takes on useful American Sam Querrey fourth on court two.

First up on court 12 is French Open semi-finalist Ernests Gulbis against Sergiy Stakhovsky, the man who ended Roger Federer's run in last year's tournament.

Over on Court 16, the ever-combustable Fabio Fognini, who defeated Andy Murray in a key Davis Cup quarter-final rubber earlier this year, plays Tim Puetz of Germany in the day's second match.

    Judy Murray hands out coffee

"Anyone for coffee? Former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, Andy Murray's mum Judy and Rafael Nadal's coach Uncle Toni spent some time putting a different type of serving skill to the test when they handed out coffee to those in the queue who had either spent the night in tents or woke up in the early hours of the morning in a bid to get tickets of today's play."
