It could barely have been more straightforward, and that will suit Andy Murray very nicely indeed. Thrashing serve down the middle, cunning angled drop-shot, blistering backhand cross-court to stroll to the brink. Serve-volley, Rola spent, and Murray is into the third round. Comprehensive.

  2. Latest scorepublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

    Sam Sheringham
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Fabio Fognini, the famously volatile Italian, looks ready to explode as he struggles against German qualifier Tim Puetz on Court 16.

"After every Puetz winner, Fognini gives his coaching team a murderous stare and fires them a volley of abuse in his native tongue. Fognini, remember, had a pop at the British fans in Naples after beat Andy Murray in straight sets in their Davis Cup tie in April."

Sighs from the sympathetic as Rola comes up with a brace of double-faults at 15-30 to toss away what is likely to be his last service game of this year's Wimbledon. The end very much nigh.

  5. On Centre Courtpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

In the wake of Agnieszka Radwanska's win, Centre Court are being treated to Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov against Australia's Luke Saville.

Both are junior Wimbledon champions, Dimitrov winning in 2008, Saville in 2011.

Only one of them realistically has their eyes on the big boys' pot this year though.

Dimitrov won at Queen's last week and, under the tutelage of coach Roger Rasheed, looks as if he is close to delivering on the potential that has had the critics purring for years.

Danny Atkins:, external Murray is destroying his opponent today! Best match I've seen him play! Truly amazing!

Tommy Mitchell:, external Another Brit (Tara Moore) chokes at serving out her match. #sameasiteverwas

Fran Brown:, external Hope Murray gets through this set quickly, I've got a meeting at three (which I am obviously sat preparing for).

We're sure they'll hold on for you if Blaz Rola makes a comeback, Fran. Although, obviously, the BBC cannot be held responsible, etc, etc.

Sweet backhand cross-court from Murray, but he'll face a break point after a double-fault is followed by a tame backhand into the net. Serve down the middle, into the net to cuff away the resultant feeble return. Rola throws in a cute sliced drop-shot with Murray out in the boondocks but sends it wide, and the slim chance slips past.

Vera Zvonareva's unforced error tally was far greater than Tara Moore's at 44 to 29. The Brit also converted 58% of the break points she fashioned, to the Russian's 43%.

Another Rola service game, another break. The highlight of this one another Murray forehand down the line, Rola heading the other way, the patriots around No.1 Court purring in appreciation.

  10. Andy Murray v Blaz Rolapublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

    John Lloyd
Former British number one on BBC TV

"I think Amelie Mauresmo will be good as a coach for Andy Murray. She's been there and done it; there have been questions as to whether a female coach can succeed in the men's game, but a champion is a champion. Mauresmo knows what she's talking about. I think it's going to be a good relationship.

"There are a few other female players and ex-players who would make good coaches on the men's circuit. I think Martina Hingis, for instance, would be an excellent coach for the tactics she used to use on the court."

The sun shielded by a block of cloud, and with the forecast for the next three days not a patch on the blue skies and warm air of the first few days, Murray will be pleased to be moving through the draw with such early ease.

  12. Reactionpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Polish fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska after her win over Australian Casey Dellacqua: "The first match on Centre Court is exciting. I was nervous but happy to play good tennis. In the second set I was more confident and used to the grass."

  13. Postpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC TV

"Tara Moore played such good tennis in this match but made one disastrous mistake at 5-3 serving for the match. She waited for Zvonareva to make the mistakes - and they never came. It is a shame because she is good enough to be in that second round."

British number six Tara Moore after her defeat by Vera Zvonareva: "The overwhelming feeling is one of disappointment

"Vera is very good and played well in the tough moments. She just had too much for me out there sometimes."

Dan at Studland Bay: These pointless opponents make Wimbledon a farce. Even if there is a first round shock, that player usually gets knocked out in the next round. Cut the field down to 32.

  17. Postpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Murray hasn't been perfect this afternoon - he's only at around 55% on his first serve, and has made 10 unforced errors in the hour so far - but the gulf in class is unavoidable. All sorts of pressure on the Rola serve once again, three break points set up with a lovely backhand overhead following a slicing backhand dropper that brings Rola to the net, and he takes the final one of the trio with a perfectly timed forehand down the line.

Puetz 6-2 2-1 Fognini: Fiery Italian Fabio Fognini won't like this. The world number 15 is a set down to German Tim Puetz, 236 places below him in the ladder.

Chardy 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (9-7) 5-5 Matosevic: Tighter than piano wire out on court 17 where Marinko Matosevic and Jeremy Chardy are duelling through a third set.
