*Goffin 3-6 1-6 6-2 2-1 Edmund
Kyle Edmund played the first two sets on pure adrenalin.
He might have to play the last two on painful lactic.
He folds away to 0-40 as his groundstrokes spray wide and he starts to look weary.
A backhand wide puts Goffin ahead in the fourth.
Neither player is playing well at the moment.
David Goffin clumps an ugly groundstroke too long and is pumping too many balls short and central back to Kyle Edmund.
Fortunately for the Belgian though, Kyle Edmund's forehand is not firing and his footwork on the baseline is leaden.
Goffin holds.
Phew...
Kyle Edmund at 15-30 down, dollies up a simple looping forehand into mid-court. Goffin runs around his forehand to put it away and set up break point, but forgets to actually play the shot.
He slaps into the net.
And Edmund makes his getaway from 30-30.
A massive let-off for Britain and a miss to get the fragile top six inches creaking for Goffin.

What could have been eh James?
A bit of a hold-up to the start of the fourth set as the net is tweaked and tightened to the correct height.
A low roof, a suspect net, a crowd hollering and shouting on the sidelines? It is like playing in your school sports hall.

Quote MessageI hope the winners have a big enough bag to take the trophy home.

I Dykes: Kyle has a great attacking game but his casual footwork, especially on the centre baseline, means he gives too many cheap points.
Kevin Ford: Just taking Goffin to five sets would be useful surely.
James Kimber: Even if Edmund chokes this in 5, he'll have tired out Goffin enough to make Murray's life a bit easier
Leon Smith is standing over Kyle Edmund whispering sweet nothings to his number two man, trying to keep him loose and relaxed as the match comes to the pointy end of things.
The equation is simple. Can Edmund win one set before Goffin wins one?

Quote MessageIt's a fascinating battle and hard to read. Kyle Edmund is able to control play with his big serve and forehand. He just got a little bit safe in that third set and he needs to get back to how he was playing in the first two sets.
Quote MessageKyle started very good, very aggressive. David was so stressed at the beginning. Now he is starting to find his rhythm. Now the match is turning a bit.
Steve Darcis, Belgium Davis Cup player on BBC Two
Goffin 3-6 1-6 6-2 Edmund*
David Goffin serves out the third set.
A old one-two punch of serve wide and forehand into open court brings up two set points.
A double-fault squanders the first, but Edmund over-cooks on the second. Joy for the Belgium team...

Quote MessageIt is very difficult to predict what is going to happen. Goffin should now win the third set.
*Goffin 3-6 1-6 5-2 Edmund
David Goffin back into the driving seat in the third set as he denies Kyle Edmund a stable platform to slug winners from.
A real wrestle for the upper hand.
The third set may have gone down the swanny though for Edmund.
Goffin 3-6 1-6 4-2 Edmund*
David Goffin stretches Kyle Edmund out of shape and has a break point at 30-40...

piping_point: Kyle just starting to pull out of his shots at the moment. Errors creeping in.
Michael Kitchener: Typical British getting carried away too quickly 3-2 Belgium is coming!
Graham Stopher: And here comes the big choke!! Momentum shift
Goffin 3-6 1-6 4-2 Edmund*
Kyle Edmund is not out of this set just yet.
The momentum is slip sliding all over the place and the third set is there for the man who has the courage to grab it by the scruff.
*Goffin 3-6 1-6 4-1 Edmund
Better from Kyle Edmund.
The Briton goes back to the playbook from the first two sets.
Booming forehand power to unsettle David Goffin and the Belgian watches a winner flash by for 0-40 and three break points.
