One of the big mistakes Goffin is making, he is going too much to the backhand, is not getting enough power on it and Edmund is able to run round it. Goffin is too predictable at the moment.

    Goffin 3-6 1-4 Edmund*

The gremlins are gnawing at Goffin's game.

The Kyle Edmund forehand has him cowed and, and saving one of three break points, he double-faults as he over-reaches on tee-off.

    Momentum all with Edmund.

Kyle Edmund is taking David Goffin to the cleaners in the rallies at the moment.

Goffin looks stressed and nervous. Edmund is bullying Goffin. He's in charge and Goffin doesn't have a clue how to deal with this 20-year-old from Great Britain.

They are struggling to keep poker faces on the Great Britain bench.

In their wildest dreams, they would not have foreseen a Kyle Edmund performance like this.

Goffin groping at thin air out wide as a barrage of forehands whizz past his ears in a hold to love.

And it only takes the one.

Kyle Edmund looks like he has a game that is kryptonite to David Goffin's touch and feel.

The Yorkshireman has blown Goffin off the court with booming power and dead-eyed depth. Goffin has been treading on the line judges toes at the back of the court and he can't do much damage from there.

  8. Two break points for Edmundpublished at 13:39

    *Goffin 3-6 1-1 Edmund

David Goffin duffs his first serve a good foot the wrong side of the service line at 15-15.

His second serve is then bullied by Edmund's forehand for 15-30.

    Double-fault!

Two break points for Kyle Edmund!

  9. *Goffin 3-6 1-1 Edmundpublished at 13:37

Kyle Edmund is playing tennis from the stars, but there is no doubt that David Goffin is also dredging the gutters at the same time.

The Belgian plonks a simple rallying shot wide, drags a backhand wide on the half-stretch before bumping long to allow Edmund through to love.

David Goffin makes his way out of the woods. If he had lost that, the whole Belgian edifice would have started wobbling.

David Goffin is beaten by a wrong-footing forehand down the narrow side in the first point of the second set.

The Belgian over-cooks a forehand long on the second and Edmund has 0-30 and an early chance to make inroads.

Ros Clarke: WOW! Well done, Kyle Edmund.

John Riordan: Incredible mental strength from Edmund to reassert himself in that last game and win the set.

Karan Gadhia: From this first set you wouldn't have guessed that Kyle Edmund is ranked about 100 places lower than David Goffin

We can see the body language of both players. A clay court game is a gladiatorial battle and Goffin looks like he is being bullied.

Edmund showed real guts and steel to close that set out. I think he seemed a little bit surprised himself the way he sealed it with an ace. There's massive pressure on Goffin now - he has to win this match.

Finished with a flourish as Kyle Edmund drills a massive serve down the middle of the T.

David Goffin takes a look at the mark., but there is nothing to get umpire Pascal Maria out of his chair to check.

Kyle Edmund clenches his fist and roars in celebration.

This Davis Cup malarky is to his liking so far. His first set ever in the tournament and he has bagged it against a player 84 ranking places higher.

Goffin started to attack a lot more on the second serve, also he started coming into the net a lot more. That is a good sign for the Brit because he isn't a great volleyer.

David Goffin wins the first point.

Kyle Edmund, with a chunk of net cord, wins the second.

Fifteen-all. Edmund fails to put away a drive volley and then dumps a forehand into the net. 15-30 and nervy.

Edmund into the net and he slaps away the forehand.

Thirty-all and you can't take your eyes off it...
