    "Time," shouts the umpire.

Like the instruction to put down your pens in a school exam, both men develop some selective hearing and get in a couple of extra strokes before heading for their stools and last preparations.

Andy Murray loves this. He doesn't mind if the crowd are against him, in fact I think it fires him up.

More from GB captain Leon Smith on BBC Radio 5 live:

“For me and the whole team it would obviously be a very big moment.  We have a very tight team spirit with everyone who has been there for the last five or six years.

"We are trying not to think about it now, our whole focus has just been focusing on the next match, what has worked for us in the past, and looking at the details.  Andy Murray is so experienced and he doesn’t allow anyone to get ahead of themselves.”

On initially turned down the captaincy role:

“It was out of respect for the magnitude of the role, which is a huge privilege, and not just something you are given without earning your stripes.

"But I am delighted I took it on, it has been an amazing journey so far and has brought us all closer together."

To come from where we have come from, a few years we were not in good shape. If we could win, what a great boost for British tennis.

Two-one up? On foreign clay? In front of some noisy opposition fans?

With Andy Murray up against a decent, gifted opponent, but one that most are expecting him to beat?

Ring any bells? That is the sound of an alarm from 2014.

Then In the quarter-finals against Italy, Murray was done over in three sets in the reverse singles by the powderkeg of Fabio Fognini. Andreas Seppi did likewise to James Ward in the deciding rubber and 2-1 up turned to 3-2 down horribly quickly for Great Britain.

Great Britain captain Leon Smith on BBC Radio 5 live:

“It is going to be very difficult.  You don’t get to 15 or 16 in the world without being a good player and David Goffin is dangerous.

"We have seen this weekend how good he can be and he is on his favourite surface.

But Andy is very experienced and he has prepared for many more big matches than Goffin has.  He will have the edge there but he will have to play a high-level match if he is going to win.

“If Andy does come unstuck, we have still got a very good chance in the deciding rubber."

Here are Fred Perry and Bunny Austin in the wake of Britain's most recent Davis Cup win, secured with victory over Australia back in 1936.

Perry is lucky that Britain won. That suit is a ringer for the one that Liverpool's players wore before their 1996 FA Cup final defeat and were never allowed to forgot.

"The breakfast room was buzzing with positive vibes as the British fans and media waited for the waffles to arrive - patience was not a problem, just a few hours from potentially ending a 79-year wait.

"I have yet to meet anyone, Belgian or British, who thinks Goffin will get close to upsetting Murray this afternoon. The general consensus is there is no way the British number one will allow himself to leave the court defeated at this stage.

"Still, the Belgian fans remain bouncingly optimistic, partly due to the ear-splitting music belting around Flanders Expo."
