    *Murray 6-1 1-0 Zverev

Andy Murray begins set two with a sublime shot. His anticipation and reading of the game are there for all to see as he sees Alexander Zverev shape for a sliced backhand volley across court and races to get there, punching the ball back up the line. Brilliant.

And what's this, with a point over, Zverev hits a return back up towards Murray and not expecting it, the Scot turns to almost take a ball in the face. That's a warning for Zverev.

"I know it wasn't intentional but you have to be careful," says the umpire.

It gets worse for Zverev as he folds like a deck of cards to lose his serve.

    *Williams 4-6 0-4 Konta

Konta continues to move Williams around the court and punishes the American's lack of movement. Venus stoops to tie up her laces but the temporary delay matters not as Konta forces an error to take the fourth game of the set.

This is about as taxing as it has got for Andy Murray so far, opening a bottle.

The term 'cruise control' is apt.

    Murray 6-1 Zverev*

Of course, if Andy Murray dashes of court with a slightly frazzled look on his face during this match it could mean big news!

It looks unlikely as this could be over promptly.

His wife Kim is due to give birth to their first child next month, and the British number one remains determined to be there, even if it means leaving Melbourne early.

"My child is more important to me, and my wife is more important to me, than a tennis match," says the second-seeded Briton.

  6. Murray takes the first setpublished at 02:33

    Murray 6-1 Zverev*

Alexander Zverev looks like a guy whose burn a winning lottery ticket now. Every challenge he's made has seen technology work against him.

Still, he deserves immense credit for brilliant hustle as he chases down a Murray return in a scintillating rally. Murray will easily drop a volley home to end it... NO. Very lazy and he gives Zverev the chance to make it to the bounce to level at 15-15. The youngster punches the air and this crowd are loving his attitude.

It's all flashes of quality from him though, the relentlessness of one so experienced looks too much for him to handle and Murray wraps up the set as Zverez hooks a backhand too wide.

  7. Konta in controlpublished at 02:32

    Williams 4-6 0-3 Konta *

Johanna Konta marches back to her mark as she sets up three break points. Her confidence is high while Williams looks disconsolate at the other end, but the American saves a second break point with a thumping, bouncing serve down the middle.

But Konta gets into the next serve and takes control of the rally before firing the ball out of Williams' reach and that's another game closer to big shock.

    Melbourne sunshine

Are you tucked in bed, wishing you could miraculously float some 10,000 miles to Melbourne to take some action in?

Not that I want to get you down in in way but while the weather in the UK tomorrow morning (right) looks bright, the current temperatures of 26C in Melbourne looks somewhat appealing.

Hot and sticky then for our Brits in action.

    *Murray 5-1 Zverev

You can see why Alexander Zverev is hyped. He plays a stunning backhand volley to stay in a rally in this sixth game but these experienced types like Andy Murray, they know how to break your heart.

Muzza doesn't admire the shot and takes a long rally. Undeterred, Zverev hits a gorgeous forehand from mid-court into the corner and has a game point but again he's put back on his heels as two quick points give Murray a chance for another break.

Needs a good serve Zverev... wide - narrowly  - Murray smiles. Second serve, wide again. Game Murray.

"I certainly didn't see this coming but it's great to see," says BBC tennis correspondent Russell Fuller as Konta holds serve with ease.

    Murray 4-1 Zverev

An ace from Andy Murray is emphatic and his lead looks very healthy now. It's taken 26 minutes, Zverez has already had a nose bleed, but things look good for Great Britain on a couple of courts.

What have you got Johanna Konta? Can she get over the line?

    *Murray 3-1 Zverev

We have our first challenge of the match as Andy Murray tells us an Alexander Zverev serve was out. It turns out it was so it's second serve time and perhaps a little rattled, we get a double fault from the 18-year-old.

Can Murray seize initiative, WOW, not when Zverev gives us stuff like that. His first smash gets returned deep to the back of the court and so it takes another smash - this time a stunner.

We go to 30-30 and Murray forces an error to earn break point, it's a long one... "C'mon" shouts Andy. That's the first break, Zverev went long with a forehand.

Telegraph tennis correspondent Simon Briggs: "Williams has been vulnerable in her movement and has a heavily strapped thigh that might be impeding her and preventing her unleashing those powerful groundstrokes."

Evans has clambered up the rankings. Did you know he has a single-figure golf handicap too?

He is on court 13 now warming up. So we will have three Brits in action at the same time.

  19. Williams 4-5 Konta *published at 02:14

Konta wins the first two points but then makes two mistakes to let Williams back into the game. The Briton flashes a cross-court volley wide at the net, and walks back to her mark knowing that was a big chance to get to set point. Instead Williams holds after Konta finds the net.

    Murray 2-1 Zverev

Alexander Zverev tees off from the centre of the baseline with a forehand and it's a beauty, Andy Murray chases but gives in. That leaves us level at 15-15. The Australian Open debutant scraps to lead 30-15 and shows some real grind as he sprints across court to keep point four alive. It's to no avail though as he puts too much meat on a return and a lazy stroke into the net gives Murray game point.

Can he take it? No problem. Strong serve and Zverev - who looks half handy - finds the net.
