"Federer and Nadal are spectacular to watch while Djokovic is machine-like in comparison. In another era his flair and movement would be incredibly appreciated but he maybe looks a little boring. He put in a massive effort to improve and he knows how to beat these guys. He could improve his volleying and overhead smashes, but mentally he's so strong."

Charles Hardy: Great match. But why aren't the semis on the same day? Djokovic gets extra day's rest - hardly fair!

"Djokovic was faultless in the first two sets. Federer made too many unforced errors and didn't get his serve going. But credit to Federer for getting back into the match."
Boris Becker looks on impassively, perhaps because he is afraid of the monster he has helped create. Those first two sets were astonishing in their efficiency, two of the best sets you will ever see. How Federer managed to nick a set off him is a miracle within a miracle. Only 20 unforced errors from Djokovic, against the 100 he served up against Gilles Simon in the fourth round. Ominous for whoever plays him in the final, he might be properly tuned in by Sunday.
So, defending champion and five-time winner Djokovic is through to his sixth Australian Open final. That's a record in the Open era, surpassing Federer and Stefan Edberg. If he wins on Sunday - he will play either Andy Murray or Milos Raonic in the final - he will join Roy Emerson as a six-time Australian Open champion.
"I played unbelievably in the first two sets but I needed to because Roger has been playing unbelievably and I knew he would be aggressive.
"It's important to always believe you can play your best and it's important your convictions are stronger than your doubts."

"The first two sets where he played incredible tennis set it up for Novak. Federer gave it a go in the third but Djokovic was brilliant. Some of the shots he gets back are superb. An incredibly high standard of tennis."

... and that's your lot, a love game to hold.
Federer sweeps a forehand return long and it's 30-0 to Djokovic. That point in the previous game might have been one last hurrah, because now the Reaper is breathing down Federer's neck...

"Federer serve-volleyed way too much on the second serve in that game. Djokovic had his eye in by the third one."
Wowsers, Djokovic with a ludicrous forehand winner on the stretch before running down a Federer drop-shot and putting away the cross-court backhand. Door, ajar. Djokovic finds the net with a forehand for 15-30. WHAT. A. POINT. Both men had it won a half-a-dozen times, there were drop-shots and lobs and volleys and what-nots. Federer eventually put it to bed with a backhand down the line. But what is this? Djokovic has broken regardless and, just like that, is serving for the match.

Lewis Elliott: Imminent need to submit my PhD thesis. But then Federer happened.
Naim Rahman: May have to make up an excuse to leave this meeting if this goes to a 5th set.
Djokovic's forehand is malfunctioning now, just as it did against Gilles Simon in round four, but that's a sweet stop-volley for 30-15. Djokovic finds a deep first serve for 40-15 and holds comfortably enough in the end.
Neat work at the net from Federer but Djokovic eventually beats him with an angled backhand. Federer finds a couple of accurate first serves to get his nose in front before muffing a forehand for 30-30. Djokovic sprays a backhand long before nutting his racquet in frustration, and Federer finds another peach of a first serve to hold.

Tom Relph: Screaming C'mon Federer! In the office, only a month into the job. Definitely worth it.
Ekara: That crowd reception tells you Djokovic will be admired, but Federer will ever be loved.
Djokovic outlasts Federer for 30-15, before shushing up a spectator, before sending down an unreturnable first serve for 40-15. That's not clever from Djokovic, ballooning a forehand long, but the Serb holds courtesy of an ace down the middle.
Federer with another ace before pulling out a forehand winner on the scamper. Federer looking to serve and volley as much as possible now and it's a love game. Federer, just like that, looks like the better player.

Margie: Never felt more like calling in sick today!!! Thanks for distracting me from work!! COME ON ROGER!!!!!
Brian McVeigh: Hopefully Fed wins the 4th and the 5th by 18-16, Murray triple bagels Raonic and Fed is exhausted in the final and Murray wins.
Djokovic misses with a cross-court backhand before Federer nets with a backhand of his own. That's a hold but it's gone a bit tense since the break - from flowing like molten lava, it's suddenly got a little bit clunky.
