Former Australian Open finalist Pat Cash: "Who am I to say Roger Federer can't win an 18th Slam, in the form that he's in? Djokovic has somehow been able to find a way to get past him and he's got the edge over recent years. But I'm going for Federer."

"It felt like the ovation for Novak Djokovic was bigger than the one for Roger Federer, which is not something you expect."

  4. Novak the Conquererpublished at 08:32

Here's an arresting stat to highlight Djokovic's suffocating dominance of men's tennis over the last few years: since the China Open in 2013, Djokovic is 57-4 against the top-10, minus Federer. Federer actually comes out of that stat rather well, given that he's only 9-6 down.

Djokovic has won 15 of his last 16 Tour matches against top-10 opposition and 12 of his last 13 matches against top-10 opposition in Grand Slams. That one defeat was by Stan Wawrinka in last year's French Open final.

Djokovic is bidding to reach his 19th Grand Slam final and move into equal-third place - alongside Ivan Lendl - on the all-time list. Federer is miles out in front with 27, Rafael Nadal is second with 20, while Peter Sampras is just behind with 18. Every time Djokovic has reached the last four in Melbourne, he has gone on to win the title.

Beginning in 2006, Federer won the first four games and 14 of the first 20. However, Djokovic slowly closed that gap between 2010 and 2015 and has won six of the last nine.

This is Djokovic and Federer's 15th Grand Slam encounter (a record in the Open era), with the Serb currently leading 8-6. In the Australian Open, Djokovic leads 2-1.

  15. Williams v Kerberpublished at 05:51 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2016

The women's line up is sorted for the final. Top seed and defending champion Serena Williams will face seventh seed Angelique Kerber.

Johanna Konta's bid to become the first British female to reach a Grand Slam final since Virginia Wade in 1977 was unsuccessful, but that won't deter from a fabulous fortnight.

Konta can return to Eastbourne satisfied that she is at least the first British woman to reach a Grand Slam semi-final since 1977.

“She is the massive underdog going into that final, Serena just looks invincible and I fear what Serena will do to that second serve – what Jo was unable to do today. It will be a tough match-up for Kerber but she does have a win against Serena.”
