  1. Djokovic 6-1 3-1 Federer*published at 09:18

Every time Federer wins a point the crowd cheer almost patronisingly, as if they've just witnessed a wheezy boy at school finally complete a cross country. Federer tugs a forehand wide for 40-15 before managing to win a point courtesy of a deep backhand volley. But Djokovic pulls out a plum of a first serve to hold. Djokovic, by the way, has produced one unforced error thus far, against his 100 in the fourth round against Gilles Simon.

"Federer loves to get around and hit the forehand but Djokovic is pinning him in the backhand corner right now. It's phenomenal tennis from Djokovic."

This is all very humbling for Federer, that's a break to love. Did you read that story in yesterday's papers about the world champion Go player who lost 5-0 to a computer? Well, that's how Federer must feel at the moment.

John Michael Poole: Federer is getting a towelling here! Breadsticks and bagels for breakfast sir?

Rob Mansfield: Federer getting steamrollered. Djokovic is just a class apart from everyone.

  5. Djokovic 6-1 1-1 Federer*published at 09:12

Djokovic wins another baseline marathon, picking Federer off as he belatedly comes to the net, before racing into a 40-0 lead with an ace out wide. Djokovic finishes off the game with a backhand down the line...

  6. *Djokovic 6-1 0-1 Federerpublished at 09:08

Has Federer ever lost a set in 22 minutes before? Unlikely. It's difficult to see what he can do about this, besides slip something in Novak's water bottle at change of ends. Federer at least gets the crowd purring with a cute drop-shot for 30-30, only for Djokovic to skim the baseline with a looping forehand, which Federer is only able to bunt into the net. Some emotion from Federer after a forehand winner before the Swiss manages to outlast his rival in a baseline exchange... Federer holds as Djokovic yanks a backhand wide. Another outburst from Federer, he hasn't quit just yet.

"If Novak Djokovic has ever played a better set of tennis than that, I'm not sure I've seen it."

"Twelve unforced errors from Federer is just too much against Djokovic. Djokovic has looked sharp and mighty impressive."

  9. Game and first set - Djokovic 6-1 Federer*published at 09:03

Twelve unforced errors for Federer so far, although there is an argument to say unforced errors should be discounted against Djokovic. This is astonishing by Novak, it really is, the Serb pulling out a whipped cross-court forehand winner for 30-15. Federer stays alive with a trademark backhand smash but Djokovic wraps up the opening set in 22 minutes. Glorious for fans of the Serb, excruciating for fans of Federer, that was a bona fide whupping.

"It's clever play from Djokovic. He's changing the pace, sticking in the rallies and then as soon as he gets half a chance rocketing a bit more power into it."

  11. *Djokovic 5-1 Federerpublished at 09:00

Federer just not tuned in at the moment, but Djokovic does tend to scramble with your reception somewhat. Djokovic getting everything back at the moment but Federer does put away a smash for 15-30, after more heroic fetching by the defending champion. But Federer goes long with a backhand to hand his rival two break points and Djokovic only needs one of them, Federer eventually buckling under the sheer weight of shot. Djokovic hitting a very heavy ball at the moment...

"Even good shots from Federer are being dealt with by Djokovic as if they're nothing. He hasn't moved like this all tournament."

  13. Djokovic 4-1 Federer*published at 08:55

Federer nets with a backhand and that's his sixth unforced error, to his opponent's one. Remember, against Gilles Simon Djokovic made exactly 100. Djokovic races into a 40-0 lead before Federer latches onto a second serve, thumping home a forehand winner. Djokovic then finds the net with a limp backhand only for Federer to net with a forehand. A glimmer for Federer, but that's all it was.

"This has been almost Serena Williams-like. This is the closest I've seen Roger Federer to looking rattled."

  15. *Djokovic 3-1 Federerpublished at 08:51

Federer must feel like he's just stuck his head out of the window of a moving plane at 500mph, Djokovic is blowing a gale out there. But that's a welcome hold to love, quick-smart. And didn't he need it.

  16. Djokovic 3-0 Federer*published at 08:49

Already we've seen the suffocating mental power of Djokovic, with Federer feeling the need to go for outlandish shots and failing to make them. Djokovic with his second ace down the middle for 15-15 before outhitting his rival from the baseline. Federer needs to start mixing it up a bit, you've got more chance trying to outlast a garage door than Djokovic. Federer does just that, rushing the net, but Djokovic picks him off with a forehand down the line. Frightening stuff from the Serb.

  17. *Djokovic 2-0 Federerpublished at 08:45

Federer with an inside-out forehand winner before going long with a forehand for 15-30. Djokovic middling it in the early stages and this time Federer nets with a tame backhand - two break points... Federer goes wide with a forehand down the line, that's a break...

  18. Djokovic 1-0 Federer*published at 08:42

Federer won the toss, apparently, and chose to receive. Read into that what you will. Novak kicks off with an ace before unfurling his first backhand winner, steered down the line and leaving Federer rooted like a 500-year-old oak. That's a hold.

"All logic points to a Djokovic victory, because he can just outlast Federer in a best-of-five-set match. But Federer has been absolutely middling everything in his last two matches, and that's key against Djokovic."
