  2. Murray*/Soares 2-6 6-3 3-2 Nestor/Stepanekpublished at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Murray looking lively at the net again, sneaking sideways and swatting a volley straight at Nestor. Soares has a half-chance at 30-30 but nets after Nestor fires in his direction. The Brazilian makes up for it with a terrific backhand return winner, deuce. Soares goes cross-court again and Nestor volleys long, break point....

A steered backhand return from Soares and Stepanek can only bunt his half-volley long! That could be a Grand Slam-winning break.

  4. Will Murray be the difference?published at 13:20 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

    Murray/Soares 2-6 6-3 2-2 Nestor/Stepanek

    Simon Briggs
Daily Telegraph tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"It's finally balanced. If both teams continue, it's Jamie Murray's dominance at the net that could be the difference.

"He is a force of nature when he get's going. He gets involved in play when you don't expect it."

  5. Murray/Soares 2-6 6-3 2-2 Nestor/Stepanek*published at 13:19 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Soares is looking more solid as the match goes on and keeps the opposition at bay with some decent volleying and a serve that jams into Stepanek's body.

  6. Murray/Soares* 2-6 6-3 1-2 Nestor/Stepanekpublished at 13:15 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Great stuff from Murray - at 0-30 he throws in the first of his trademark lob returns, and two points later another fine return earns break point.... but Nestor swings in a winning serve that Stepanek smashes away. The experienced pair survive.

  7. Murray/Soares 2-6 6-3 1-1 Nestor*/Stepanekpublished at 13:11 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Murray again looks confident on serve, moving 40-0 clear, before a Nestor winner and a rather rushed volley from the Scot make things a little tighter. Stepanek wins a volleying duel with Soares and it's deuce...

Good serve from Murray... sharp volley from Soares. Game.

    Murray/Soares* 2-6 6-3 0-1 Nestor/Stepanek

    Simon Briggs
Daily Telegraph tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"This is an important stage for Soares and Murray because they have the momentum, but it doesn't take much to switch it back again.

"Nestor and Stepanek have started well in this set."

  9. Murray/Soares* 2-6 6-3 0-1 Nestor/Stepanekpublished at 13:07 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

A very solid hold for team Nestor/Stepanek, and that has at least halted the momentum shift.

  11. Murray/Soares 2-6 6-4 Nestor/Stepanek*published at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Solid stuff from Murray the elder, serving out the set to love to level the score. A huge set coming up for Murray now as he looks to finally land a men's doubles Grand Slam title, to add to his 2007 Wimbledon mixed doubles victory.

  12. Murray*/Soares 2-6 5-4 Nestor/Stepanekpublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Soares pinches one at the net to cut the deficit to 40-30 but Stepanek angles away a high forehand volley and Murray will have to serve this out, as we approach midnight local time.

  13. Murray/Soares 2-6 5-3 Nestor*/Stepanekpublished at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Soares enjoys a much smoother passage on serve, easing 40-15 up and firing down an ace.

  14. Murray/Soares* 2-6 4-3 Nestor/Stepanekpublished at 12:52 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

A quickfire hold from Stepanek, free from worrying about foot faulting.

  15. Gordon Reid celebrates singles titlepublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

While Jamie Murray is out on court looking for a major title, compatriot Gordon Reid is heading off to celebrate his own trophy-grab.

The 24-year-old Scot won his first Grand Slam singles title by beating Joachim Gerard 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 in the wheelchair final in Melbourne earlier today.

  16. Murray/Soares 2-6 4-2 Nestor*/Stepanekpublished at 12:50 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

A nice ding-dong rally on game point goes Murray/Soares' way as Nestor misses from mid-court, and the service hold is consolidated. Meanwhile, it seems as though the official with the temerity to call Stepanek for three foot faults has been replaced.

  17. Murray*/Soares 2-6 3-2 Nestor/Stepanekpublished at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Those two double faults in a row appear to have done the trick for Soares, jolting him to life, and he dominates at the net to earn a 15-30 lead. Murray then darts across the net for a steal and 15-40, two break points...

A Stepanek smash splits the pair on the first, Soares volleys long with half a chance in front of him on the second. Murray fizzes over a dipping return, break point number three... Nestor finds a service winner. Murray keeps his team in the next rally with some fine scrambling and Stepanek nets a straightforward volley, break point four... and Stepanek nets again!

  18. Murray/Soares 2-6 2-2 Nestor*/Stepanekpublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Soares double faults for 15-15 and the nerves are fluttering. He double faults again and they are seriously jangling, 15-30. Full marks to the Brazilian as he digs himself out of trouble to level.

  19. Serves countpublished at 12:35 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

    Murray/Soares* 1-2 2-6 Nestor/Stepanek

    Simon Briggs
Daily Telegraph tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Now we have Soares to serve and it's been a disaster so far. As a pair they've only put 53% of their serves in.

"In doubles it's so important not to give your opponents the soft ball to hit back.

"There's more venom coming on the Nestor/Stepanek serve."

  20. Murray/Soares* 2-6 1-2 Nestor/Stepanekpublished at 12:33 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2016

Stepanek is called for a third foot fault, and as you can imagine is incredulous at this state of affairs. He quite naturally asks for the line judge to be replaced, but the umpire isn't keen on that suggestion. The battle between Stepanek and his baseline nemesis is in danger of being the most fiercely fought on court, but it sparks some life into proceedings.

Soares fires a winner through the wall at the net for break point.... sharp work from Nestor at the net snuffs it out though. Another break point is fended off and it's a good hold in the end from Stepanek.
