For the second time, Kerber is two points from the title as she takes a 0-30 lead.

But a booming ace from Williams brings her back into the game.

And the American shows why she is number one in the world. She sees out an exhausting rally to level.

Same again from Williams. The reigning champion judges the back-hand perfectly and sends it past her German opponent. 40-30.

However, Kerber brings it to deuce as Williams scrapes the ball into the net.

But Williams taps long after coming into the net to make it 15-30.

A battle on the diagonal is won by Williams and she has two break points.

The American loses one after hitting into the net from Kerber's serve, which she perhaps should have challenged.

Williams hits the winner...she's broken and is clinging on for dear life.

    Another break point for Kerber!

She has the advantage, but Williams saves again with a back-hand winner from mid-court. Unstoppable.

Deuce, and then advantage Williams thanks to an ace. But Kerber sends a subtle back with a nice bit of top spin just over the net. Williams did not expect that at all. Back to deuce.

A fourth double fault from Williams and a fourth break point. Can Kerber get this one?

No....she hits into the net. We keep going.

The German remains unfazed about what's happening in front of her. It's 15-40 and she claims two break points.

A quite fabulous rally ensues. Both stay pinned to their baselines, and Williams is in control as Kerber races back and forth on a shuttle run. Eventually the American wins out with a luscious forehand.

Williams comes forward to try and flummox Kerber on the forehand, but the American can only stroke into the net from close-range. Looks like she's put too much behind it.

Two forehand winners in a row from the number one seed brings her level on 30-30.

But there's no consistency to Williams' game, and Kerber is punishing her.

The German's angles a beautiful serve into the corner and holds her serve.

And boom - an ace down the middle. That'll do.

Yes she can. She screams loud and proud as she hands Kerber a taste of her own medicine.
