    Bedene 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 2-3 Carreno Busta*

More like it from Aljaz Bedene.

And more like it, from a British point of view, from Pablo Carreno Busta.

Three unforced errors off the Spanish racquet give Bedene a hold to love.

    *Bedene 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 1-3 Carreno Busta

Aljaz Bedene allows Pablo Carreno Busta's forehand to drop long, taking a careful look at the line before patting the ball to a waiting ball boy, to set up break point.

He cannot lever his way back to parity though.

Pablo Carreno Busta battles back to take the game.

That 27-minute second set, when Bedene landed with 72% of his first serves, is looking like the exception rather than the rule.

"Fine performance by Bedene so far. His serve is the bedrock, but the drop shots have dragged Carreno out of his comfort zone."

    Bedene 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 1-2 Carreno Busta*

Pablo Carreno Busta gets his teeth into the Aljaz Bedene serve bringing up 15-30 and then taking Bedene down to deuce town with a clean-as-a-whistle backhand winner down the line.

The Spaniard weighs a drop-shot just right to bring up break point. A bit of pummel and pound as the two men go to war from the baseline. But Pablo breaks down first in the lengthy exhange.

He has another break point though as he chases like a collie on day release to stay in a rally.

And Bedene nets! Correno Busta had slipped as well. But Bedene could not find the open court.

  5. 'Bedene needs to keep focus'published at 11:41 British Summer Time 26 May 2016

    Colin Fleming
    British tennis player

"Bedene has given himself a real chance. His serve and the way he's been dominating the play would lead you to hope he closes the match out. There's still a lot of work to do though and this is where you let your mind wonder. Asking questions like 'will I progress and play Djokovic on centre court in the next round?' He needs to focus on the processes, and if he can do that then he's in great shape."

    *Bedene 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 1-1 Carreno Busta

Pablo Carreno Busta keeps his cool and concentration to take the game.

But the Spaniard is fighting against Aljaz Bedene's momentum.

  7. Bedene sees off two break points to holdpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 26 May 2016

    Bedene 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 1-0 Carreno Busta*

Uh-oh. A slip in concentration from Aljaz Bedene.

Some wishy-washy tennis, well short of his second-set excellence, hands Pablo Carreno Busta two break points at 15-40.

Bedene pulls into focus just in time though.

He is back to deuce after coming through a beautifully constructed point, sneaking up court to gleefully slam away a bounce volley with the 21st stroke in the longest rally of the match so far.

Bedene makes good his escape and Carreno Busta takes out his frustration on an unfortunate racquet, earning a warning from the chair.

  8. Bedene wins second setpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 26 May 2016

    *Bedene 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 Carreno Busta

Aljaz has the bit between his teeth now, forcing his opponent into errors and strutting about the clay court with the manner of a man who believes he's in the ascendancy. Carreno Busta's back-of-the-court style is proving to be his weakness now as his British opponent deals with anything which is thrown at him. The Brit is two sets in front following a double-fault.

That was one to wheel out at the Albert Hall in 20 years time.

Pablo Correno Busta, from five metres behind the baseline, hits a nonchalent drop-shot over the tape for a winner.

But now it is Aljaz Bedene's time to sprinkle the stardust.

The Briton guesses right to return a full-blooded smash with a great forehand down the line and then a dink drop-volley seals the game.

Now then, finally things get interesting in the second set.

Aljaz Bedene gets a sniff at 0-30.

More than a sniff, he has three break points to savour in his nostrils as he lures Pablo Carreno Busta long for 0-40.

The Spaniard is breaking up like apple crumble topping.

Bedene has barely had to press to convert that chance, hitting back strong and central, and Pablo does the job for him, cuffing another one wide.

Serve is dominating like we are playing on second-week Wimbledon in the 1980s.

Aljaz Bedene delivers three successive aces on his way to a love service hold.

He is a relative slip of a thing as well, just brushing six foot.

Too early to start getting settled in for another tie-break?

Aljaz Bedene serve is skidding through with plenty of zip and Pablo Carreno Busta fails to lay anything on it.

A hold to love sealed with an ace.

This is silver service, one arm behind the back and roasties dished out with a pair of spoons, from Aljaz Bedene.

More promising signs for Aljaz Bedene as he nibbles a couple of points off Pablo Carreno Busta's serve.

But the Spaniard sees off the danger with a fine backhand down the line.

The two players feeling each other out after the tension of the tie-break.

"A fantastic end to a very tight set. Aljaz Bedene really stepped up with lots of conviction in that tie break bar that one drop shot error. It's going to be key for him, his opponent is similar in approach, but I feel Aljaz has advantages in his swing. He has to step up, and has to win this match.
