    Bedene 7-6 (7-4) Carreno Busta

    First blood to Bedene.

This match has all the hallmarks of a marathon though.

Stephane Robert and Alexander Zverev - who are up next on Court Six - don't bother lacing up your trainers for a while yet.

    Bedene 6-6 (6-3) Carreno Busta*

Aljaz Bedene with balls on his racquet at 5-2 up and the chance to serve out.

Oh, that is an ugly, twitchy drop-shot though. Into the middle of the net and that is 5-3.

Bedene lives on his wits in the next point. Coming to the net he puts away his man at the second attempt.

    Three set points.

  3. Tie-breakpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 26 May 2016

    Bedene 6-6 (5-1) Carreno Busta*

Aljaz Bedene has his foot jammed to the floor.

He drives forehands left and right to chase Pablo Carreno Busta off court for 4-0.

The Spaniard strays long to make it 5-0.

One back on the board for Pablo as the players take a mini-break.

But if Aljaz can hold his next two serves the opening set is his.

    *Bedene 6-6 (3-0) Carreno Busta

Aljaz Bedene to serve first. And he holds up his end.

A nice hurry-up forehand across court and he has the mini-break.

    2-0 Bedene.

Make that a double. The Briton feathers away a drop-volley after a Carreno Busta serve to tighten his grip on the breaker.

    *Bedene 6-6 Carreno Busta

Fifteen-thirty up, Aljaz Bedene rolls the dice as he goes for a big forehand return down the line.

Just wide. That would have been two break points.

He's got one to play with though as the Briton slaps away a smash for 30-40.

Pablo Carreno Busta's serve rides to its owners' rescue though. Three biggies and we are into a tie-break/

  7. 'Aljaz needs to take advantage'published at 10:50 British Summer Time 26 May 2016

    Bedene 5-4 Carreno Busta

    Colin Fleming
    British tennis player

"Busta doesn't look the most natural when the left hand comes off the racket and he has to slice and defend. If Aljaz could just creep forward to knock off the volley. It's not easy to break the mould of what you do when in the second round of a Grand Slam."

    Bedene 6-5 Carreno Busta*

Aljaz Bedene's serve is not a beast, more a laser-guided precision affair.

When he is peppering the apexes of the service boxes, it doesn't need to bust the speed gun however.

His first-serve percentage and ace count are creeping north at a pleasing rate.

    *Bedene 5-5 Carreno Busta

Aljaz Bedene finding some lovely angles from the back of the court to stretch Pablo Carreno Busta out of shape.

The British number two has a very whippy little action off both wings, the backhand especially, acclerating sharply though the ball to generate his power after a leisurely take-back.

He can't quite do enough in that game though as Carreno Busta makes it through to 30.

    Bedene 5-4 Carreno Busta*

Aljaz Bedene pelts down three big serves - including two aces to seal off the game after Pablo Carreno Busta took the opening point with a good backhand punch down the line.

Bedene is up to six aces for the match so far, but has landed with an even 50% of his first serves. That could be better.

Playing out on the wilds of Court Six means you have plenty of background chatter to deal with.

There have been sirens from a nearby road and cheers from a nearby court for both players to contend with.

Pablo Carreno Busta keeps his eyes on the prize though as he holds and levels up the scoreboard.

It's all about getting your mindset from the practice court to the real thing. He's had a good clay season particularly with that final in Madrid. Maybe that's affected him when he gets out there, but the crucial thing is he's in the third round. He's got himself through and given himself a good chance.

  14. Bedene holds, sees off five break pointspublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 26 May 2016

    Bedene 4-3 Carreno Busta*

A fourth break point is zapped by a big serve down the middle by Aljaz Bedene.

And a fifth is scraped off the table with a ballsy bit of serve-volley.

And finally the Briton makes it home with his serve unscathed.

That was a big hold as we get to the business end of the first set.

    *Bedene 3-3 Carreno Busta

This really is a tightly-matched tussle.

Aljaz Bedene finds himself is a bit of pickle at 15-40 down but sees off both break points with a net rush and pinging forehand respectively.

Here comes a third though as Bedene fluffs a drop-shot return.

    Saved with a popping ace.

    On we march...

    *Bedene 3-3 Carreno Busta

Pablo Carreno Busta races out into a 40-0 lead.

The Spaniard attempts to get over the line with a dinky drop-shot. But you wouldn't trust him with washing up your finest china. Carreno Busta is clumsy when it comes to the fine needlework at the front of the court.

He goes back to what he does best - relentless percentage tennis - and that gets him over the line.

They've both set up camp on the baseline and look to dictate the play. The challenge will be who can get on top? Serving is key. There's no doubt that Bedene is up against a quality opponent - Carreno Busta is playing some phenomenal tennis this year.

Aljaz Bedene tastes the sweet air of leading the match.

A whistle-stop hold and - that first-game wobble aside - his serve looks locked down tight and tidy.

Colin Fleming promised and the tennis gods duly delivered for Aljaz Bedene.

Pablo Carreno Busta coughs up a couple of errors to give the Briton two break points.

And Aljaz does the bizzo as he runs down a telegraphed drop-shot from the Spaniard and shows him how it is done with a deft cross-court effort.

    Even stevens.
