    Djokovic v Thiem

Hard to believe that Novak Djokovic has never won the French Open, given his dominance in every other Grand Slam.

The Serbian world number one has been a finalist on three occasions but has yet to get his hands on the trophy.

He's lost twice to Rafael Nadal - who of course pulled out injured this year - before being defeated by Stan Wawrinka last year (see below).

Will it be his year? He'll have to get past clay wizz-kid Dominic Thiem first.

    Djokovic v Theim

After two weeks of spotting hundreds of them roaming the clay at Roland Garros, the men and women dressed as Adidas-branded zebras have now become endangered.

Only one remains from the herd (or dazzle, to be precise).

Dominic Theim - a 22-year-old Austrian who has had a brilliant 2016 so far.

He's claimed three singles titles - in Nice, Mexico and Argentina - and has now progressed to a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time in his career.

In his way today is the only man who has won more titles this year - world number one Novak Djokovic. They're already underway on Suzanne-Lenglen Court..

    French Open 2016

7th June 2015 will be a day which sticks long in the memory of Stan Wawrinka.

The Swiss stunned Novak Djokovic to win his first French Open title and thwart the world number one's career Grand Slam hopes.

The man in the checkered pink shorts played magnificently in a 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 victory and brought an end to Djokovic's 28-match winning streak.

Cue adulation and some awkward promo shots by the Eiffel Tower.

Serena Williams, in what sounds like near perfect French, is speaking on court after her victory.

"It’s been very difficult. I’m so happy and relieved right now. I hope to have the support from the crowd because it’s so important to me and makes such a difference."

The world number one will now play Garbine Muguruza in the final tomorrow - a repeat of last year's Wimbledon final.

"Quite amazing. I'm quite surprised - it is amazing Serena won this match because she wasn't playing well. You have to give her credit - this is why she's number one in the world. She finds a way to win these matches and this is why she's number one in the world."

We have a winner - Miss Serena Williams is in the final.

On her fourth match point, Williams pins Kiki Bertens to the baseline and after a lot of back and forth, the plucky Dutch woman sends a forehand long.

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) 5-4 Bertens*

Serena Williams deceives her opponent with a backhand winner for 15-0, but the American, on her second serve, then slams a forehand into the net. 15-15.

And then Williams smiles an ironic smile after overcooking a backhand which goes past the baseline. 15-30.

She levels with a winner on the line and lets out a COME ON as she moves to match point with a drop shot.

Can she do it this time?

Another advantage to Serena Williams and another match point. But again she hits long! We go to deuce for the fourth time!

Another forehand miss from Williams gives the advantage to Bertens (again).

The Dutch woman finally holds. She's going to make the world number one serve for the match.

Annnnnd back to deuce we go again.

What did I just say? Bertens isn't giving up. She brings it back to deuce.

But Williams places a perfect backhand winner for her second match point.

    *Williams 7-6 (9-7) 5-3 Bertens

Williams isn't wasting any time now. She takes the first two points on Bertens' serve.

But the Dutch woman isn't giving up any time soon. The blonde 24-year-old levels it up to 30-30.

She's down on her hands and knees to try and get the backhand winner, but it goes just out.

    Serena Williams has match point.

"If Serena goes into the final and is having an injury problem and can't move then Muguruza can win. I think Garbine is better than Serena's last two opponents. A lot will depend on Serena's physical state."

A beauty of a backhand is unleashed by Bertens and she takes the first point on Williams' serve.

And another! This time with a drop shot across court. Lovely.

But the Dutch woman swipes into the net, and then hits long, which sees Williams level.

The American launches an almighty ace to make it 40-30 and finds another one in her locker to hold.

Williams is one game away from the final.

Is this the point where Serena Williams shows her prowess?

Another return winner from Bertens' serve gives the world number one a double break point.

The first one disappears, but Williams gets what she wants at the second attempt.
