"Serena has missed quite a few volleys, particularly on the forehand, but she paid special attention to block it at the net there and win the point."

  2. Williams holds off break pointpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 3 June 2016

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) 3-3 Bertens*

Williams manages to stave off another Bertens break point and moves to advantage herself.

The world number one takes the game to level, as she comes into the net to smack past Bertens who ends up doing the splits. Ouch!

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) 2-3 Bertens*

Serena Williams was 30-0 up but the resilient Kiki Bertens powers over a cross-court winner to level. She has no fear this girl.

Williams moves to 40-30 but Bertens is at it again. An effortless drop shot from the 24-year-old evades the American to take the score to deuce.

And Bertens now has break point! But she can only hit well wide after sliding across court. Back to deuce.

Spanish fourth seed Gabrine Muguruza has reached her second career Grand Slam final by beating Australia's Sam Stosur 6-2 6-4 on Suzanne-Lenglen Court.

She goes one better than last year's semi-final at Roland Garros - can she better her runner-up finish at Wimbledon last year?

"It's good to see Kiki staying in the match and not getting discouraged. After having opportunities in that first set she could get discouraged. It's great to see how she's handing this match. She's not suggesting she's giving up."

Bertens back on serve now but she's being tested by Serena Williams. The pair are level on 30-30

Williams lets out a cry of anguish as she fails to return Bertens' powerful second serve, and the Dutch woman slams home a winner to hold. An important hold at that.

"Sometimes Serena doesn't look like she wants to be out there. I think today is one of those days - some days I felt like that. You're tired and sore and you have a Grand Slam semi-final."

Is breakbackability a word? It is now. You heard it here first. Serena Williams has two break points.

Bertens rescues one with a deft backhand winner but Williams takes the game with a powerful forehand.

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) 0-2 Bertens*

I'm having a case of deja vu.

After breaking Williams in the opening game of the match, Bertens does it again in the opening game of the second.

This time she does it to love, as well. Her rasping forehand winner does the business.

"Serena was fortunate to win that first set. Kiki deserved to win it. Now it will be very difficult for Kiki to win this match. Mentally it's going to be very tough because now she's got to win in two."

    Well, that took a while.

Kiki Bertens gets us underway in the second but she's struggling early doors as Serena Williams takes the first two points.

The Dutch woman recovers to 40-30, though, and she holds after Williams returns long.

Tom Smith: At work, were not prepared by schedule change and put off by weather in the build up - completely reasonable

Aya: Due to flooding in paris maybe?

Tracy: There are a lot of strikes in France right now. Shame there's a lot of empty seats for the semi finals.

  16. Williams takes first set on tie-breakpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 3 June 2016

    Williams 7-6 (9-7) Bertens*

Oh dear. Serena Williams is really screwing this up. She twice hits into the net and now it's set point to Bertens.

But now Bertens is making error after error...and it's Williams who has set point. I hope you're keeping up?

Here we go...Williams serves...and she lets out a roar. The world number one FINALLY takes the first set.

Williams moves to 5-2 as Bertens tries to shake out her bad leg.

The pair enter into another defensive rally and it's Bertens who hits the winner just into the corner. 5-3.

Bertens makes it 5-4 after overpowering Williams and the Dutch woman levels on her serve.

But then a misplaced forehand gives Williams set point.

    Williams 6-6 (4-2) Bertens*

Williams snatches into the net as she loses the first point but a quite remarkable, speeding backhand brings her to 1-1.

The world number one looks annoyed as Bertens grabs another point to lead 2-1.

A tense rally ensues and it's won by Williams, despite some hard graft from Bertens across the baseline. So frustrating for the Dutch woman.

Another deep sigh from Bertens as Williams makes some sensational returns to move to 4-2 at the change over.
