    *Murray 3-2 Wawrinka

Wawrinka pinning Murray two feet behind the baseline with those thumping forehands and backhands. It means he can land a simple drop shot that leaves Andy floundering. Simple stuff on his way to the hold.

Murray puts his first serve of the game into the net and scowls at the overhead camera on Court Phillipe-Chatrier. He has a running grudge against that inanimate bit of technology.

It looks like it's affecting him as he goes 0-30 down.

A serve and volley will make him feel better - so he dutifully performs one.

And before you know it, he's 40-30 up and closes out with a lob from the baseline that Wawrinka can only pat wide.

"These dinky battles over the net, Murray is going to win the majority and Wawrinka knows that. That's a big mental win for Andy. Stan should be used to that after playing against Federer."

Wawrinka moving Murray around the baseline like a chess piece, but that backhand suddenly loses its range and Murray finds himself at 15-40 with two break points.

Stan rescues one, but it's not enough.

A thumping baseline rally merges into a battle at the net and Murray gets down low for a wonderfully controlled half-volley and Wawrinka pokes into the net.

    Break to the Brit.

Ian Funnell: Murray has to stay in points and games as long as possible and hope Wawrinka gets frustrated and makes mistakes.

Matthew Harris: We could be here for quite some time.

We're not here for a good time, we're here for a long time...or something.

"That will make Andy Murray feel a lot better. When the ball goes in the back corner, to hit those for a clean winner takes some guts."

    Murray 1-1 Wawrinka*

Murray hits the net for break point, but rescues it by drawing Stan in with a drop shot and converting a volley.

And there's a second serve with some pepper on it from the Briton for the advantage.

And another with pepper on - but a double fault. Swings and roundabouts there.

Finally he regains advantage and puts away a nice backhand crosscourt for an arduous hold.

A close-up of the back of Wawrinka's shoes shows a couple of silhouettes of the Australian and French Open titles he's won. Wonder if I can buy a pair?

Murray's having to work hard here - he slices into the net to go down 15-30.

Wawrinka's hitting hard and deep, with Murray a few yards behind the baseline. But he goes too deep to allow Murray back in it.

A terrific sliding drop shot from Stan takes it to deuce though - I think the Swiss has hit every tennis shot in the book already.

Twice Murray has advantage, twice it goes back to deuce...

"That's the perfect game. Stan's calm, cool and relaxed. He's hit a couple of forehands, controlled volleys and then the dropshot, which we have seen in bucket-loads."

    *Murray 0-1 Wawrinka

A strong rally to get us off the mark - Stan's hitting it deep and Murray goes into the net. Wawrinka follows it up with a delicate drop shot at the net and a overhead volley to go 40-0.

And he holds to love with a tidy drop shot. Easy peasy.

The knock-up is still in process, in front of a probably two-thirds full Philippe-Chatrier Court. It seems tennis is not the big ticket in Paris today.

"In theory the conditions will favour Wawrinka, but that's in theory. He's the most powerful player on the circuit. The downside to these conditions is they tend to overhit the ball."

    Thanks Caroline.

I'm expecting a steady road, no speed bumps and ice creams under the Eiffel Tower by tea time.

Second seed against third seed in a French Open semi - it'll be straightforward, right?

"Andy seems to be in good form. Stan has won this tournament and has the experience. Stan has a beautiful backhand and runs around his forehand beautifully. A lot of it depends on how well Andy can serve and return. He'll need to keep it away from that left side of the court."
