Even Doctors can't provide this much lunchtime drama for us Brits. With Heather Watson scrapping on Court 12, and Dan Evans causing a scene on the adjacent Court Two, those on the back row of the larger court have the prime spot in the country. Virtually of all them are turned sideways, one eye on Watto and one eye on Evo.

Dan Evans edges a break up in the first game of the third set and celebrate with a clenched fist and a yelp.

The Briton has had a couple of bigger wins in his career - notably beating Kei Nishikori at the 2014 US Open - but this will be a big result if he can see it out.

He had never won a main-draw match at Wimbledon before.

The Lendl effect? The Willis effect? The effect of actually being able to get on court and play some tennis?

Whatever it is, I think we could do with a little of what Dan Evans is motoring on on Court Two.

He seals the second set against world number 33 Alexsandr Dolgopolov with a deft drop volley, his wrist tendons sucking up all the pace and cushioning the ball out of reach into the front court.

Well, well, well. Turns out Diego Veronelli was spot on - there was a long way to go! Heather Watson crashes out four games on the spin, then exchanges games with the German, to move within one more break of the second round.

"Come on 'Ev" has been used more times than 'Brexit' on Court 12 in the past 10 minutes.

Heather Watson is hauling around this tanker for a third set.

From 3-0 and a double break down, she now lead 5-4.

Annika Beck to serve next, but Watson has been swarming all over the German's tee-off.

Marcus Willis may be out of Wimbledon, but he is still occupying a lot of hearts and minds around the All England.

The British world number 772 took seven games off Roger Federer on a memorable afternoon on Centre Court. yesterday.

A couple of interesting little details from the day's press coverage. The Times report that Liverpool fan Willis turned down the offer of sponsorship from the Sun newspaper, which has been heavily criticised for its coverage of the Hillsborough disaster.

And girlfriend Jennifer Bate has been ironing out some errors in the Daily Express's story. Never upset a dentist. They are the ones with a drill in your mouth.

I fancy Watson from here. Beck needs to work her serve better as Watson is returning very well now.

Plenty of noise down here on the tight Court 12 as Heather Watson fights for her Wimbledon life. Shrieks of joy. Groans of despair. Frustrated slappings of thigh. And that's just from the Guernsey girl.

The home crowd are trying their best to encourage her, as is her coach Diego Veronelli. "Long way to go," he says after she goes back to a double break down.

    Hmmm.

Heather has left it late to get back into this game, but better late than never. Beck had three game points for a 4-0 lead, but better reactions from Heather now and mentally she is still in it. She still thinks she can win this.

British number four Dan Evans prevails 8-6 in the first set tie-break.

Evans - 91st in the world - is giving up 58 ranking places to the Ukrainian.

This would be a biggie for him.

Rain? Pah. This is protective hat and sunscreen territory in Court 18. That is very good news for Heather Watson. The British number two is attempting to finish her first-round match against Germany's Annika Beck for the third successive day. If Bill Murray was umpiring then it could be Groundhog Day II.

Unfortunately the British number two is a double break down in the decider. She needs some serious excavation equipment to get out of this hole.

"Excuse me ladies and gentlemen, can you move to the side please. Players coming through!"

Fans (and BBC journalists) are politely shoved out of the way as Dan Evans and Alexandr Dolgopolov, with Heather Watson and Annika Beck closely on their heels, breeze past on their way to court.

And, as you can see by the poor quality photography, they are rapid.

    Champers

Katie, Charles and Rebecca - from New Zealand and Australia - got here and pitched their tent at 6am this morning...so they could get tickets for tomorrow!

They're standing about an inch deep in mud and have a 30 hour wait ahead but they're in the party spirit - hats, champers, pork pies. I'm tempted to stay here and join in.
