What a contrast from the opening service game from Berdych when he fired down three aces and held to love. What a wretched game.

    *Pouille 2-2 Berdych

Three immediate break back points for Frenchman Lucas Pouille. C'est interessant.

One is lost when the world number 32 hits into the net but then Tomas Berdych smacks down a double fault.

    We're break central over here.

It seems like Roger Federer is getting better and better as the match is going on and he is pulling out some incredible shots.

Marin Cilic - facing break point - goes death-or-glory across court.

It looks wide. It's called wide. Cilic asks the question anyway. HawkEye confirms it is wide.

Federer has broken! He serves for the semis next.

Both men's groundstrokes are now like a bag of Revels.

Roger Federer pulls out a beauty of a backhand after a rank orange-flavour forehand flies long.

Cilic's turn to try his luck. He nets across court.

Federer with a peach of a shot down the line, brings up break point.

Cilic bats his back with a big serve. Deuce.

You look at Berdych over the years and what he does, he does well but you never think of him having different game-plans.

  8. 'Wonderful' from Berdychpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

...and we're not even into the second set. Still only getting started on Court One.

There is nervous tension out on the court, in the players' box, in the crowd and in the locker room.

I am sure Murray and Tsonga have gone through a few warm-ups already this afternoon.

    *Berdych 2-1 Pouille

After six (yes, six) deuces, Tomas Berdych takes the advantage and break point.

And he shakes his fist in delight as Lucas Pouille hits a forehand long.

The Czech moves into an early lead over on Court One.

Darren Plant: This has been such a good quarter-final. Cilic can be unplayable at times but Federer is stronger mentally

Holly Plant: Unbelievable tennis from Federer + some unreal pickups! Fair play to Cilic for provoking it

Dom Breslin: I don't think my nerves can take much more of this match. RF shirt on. Head has been in heads most of the last 3 hours.

Roger Federer tickles wide and humps long to allow Marin Cilic back to 30-30.

A few more creaks in the usually silver-standard service, but order is soon restored.

Somewhere in this set there is a monster of a break about to surface. But in who's service game is it going to rear its head?

Neither man looks bullet-proof. Not by a long mark.

  13. How Roger saved the matchpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

Here it is again. As Roger looks to break in the final set, it's important to remember that only a few minutes ago he very nearly went out of the championships.

This is the tie-break that saved him.

Sublime. Roger Federer cushions a laser-guided block backhand down the line for 15-30. One of the shots of the day.

More brilliance as he lets fly with the one-hander off that same wing and scores again.

    30-40 and break point Federer.

He shoots off the backhand for a third time, but finds only gauze.

Deuce and the Cilic serve snuffs out any hopes of reviving the chance.

Marin Cilic clambers into a second-serve return at 30-0 down. That was his return ticket back into the game, but he netted it.

Roger Federer strolls through the rest of the game.

Shadow boxing as the sun dips low over Centre Court.

If you look at the records, Federer is 23-19 in five-setters and Cilic is 23-9 but you have to discount that. It comes down to who wants it more. I have a feeling Roger wants this more - I haven't seen him this fired up since he was 19, playing in Milan.
