Tsonga was red-lining it in the first set, pushing the limits, but there's no excuse for these last couple of games.

    *Murray 7-6 4-0 Tsonga

Tsonga slams an ace down to move to 30-0. Bam.

But then, as he rushes into the net to finish off a rally, he completely mis-hits a forehand and it wiggles wide.

The error count grows as a backhand and a forehand go into the net. Break point Murray.

And the British number one takes another game when Tsonga hits past the baseline.

That was quick work from Murray.

The Scot watches Tsonga hit a forehand wide and he holds to love. Easy.

This is where the question marks have been over Tsonga and whether he can win a Grand Slam.

Over two weeks, in five set matches, he will play some great tennis but will have some lulls and you can't do that against the great players.

Jeanna Skinner: Need an ambulance! Can't breathe heart racing blood pressure through the centre court roof! Think I've got #murraymania, external

Chanice Hird: Andy Murray you are an absolute beaut! Good boy! Stuck in there! First set Murray! Let's go!

Philip: Murray vs Tsonga 1st set probably the best set of tennis I'll ever see.

And so it turns. Tsonga, the mighty oak of a man, suddenly with arms like fag ash - wide, long, break points for Murray, horrible backhand wide...

    Benneteau/Roger-Vasselin 6-4 6-4 6-7 (11-13) 6-7 (1-7) 10-8 J.Murray/Soares

Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares have been through the mill in the doubles.

After spending over five hours on court to progress from the last 16, they've battled for four hours and 30 minutes in the quarter-finals.

But unfortunately it was all in vain this time. The British-Brazilian pair have lost in five sets against French duo Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

After all that cheek-nipping tension, Murray comes out and strolls through a service game to love. Deep breath, let's crack on.

    Murray 7-6 (12-10) Tsonga

Murray on the sprint - he can't get to that, can he? My word he can - flicks it back, Tsonga diving like Boris, the ball falling into the net's cold embrace. Murray in behind his serve, Tsonga exposed, Murray watching the return onto the very strings, the drop-shot dying, dying, Tsonga nowhere near it...

A gripping tie-break means that all possible vantage points are in use.

Through a gap in the grandstand, down over the fishpond, and above the heads of hundreds of seated fans?

Sure. This group are so far from the screen I think they are in a different postcode from SW19.

Ace Murray. Set point. Second serve, JWT off-balance, wafting a backhand.... that drops in. Wooo. Tsonga again - nets it, and Murray will serve for it at 9-8. Tsonga with wonderful guts, charging the guns, thumping over the volley, 9-9. Fabulous exchange from the baseline, ending with Tsonga flailing into the net. Set point Scotland, mangled by a car-crusher of a French forehand.

    Pouille 6-7 (4-7) 3-6 2-6 Berdych

    John Lloyd
Former British number one on BBC TV

I don't think Berdych would have deep down expected to go through to the semi-finals the way he's been playing recently. We saw glimpses today of the power and pace that he has. He looked very confident, and he needed an easy match today. He didn't want a long one going into the semi-finals.

Tomas Berdych obviously has dinner reservations to get to tonight. He's not hanging about.

The Czech blitzes his final service game to love, taking the third and final set after Lucas Pouille smacks into the net.

A routine victory for the 2010 finalist.

    This is a losing battle.

One dutiful security guard is trying to hurry people along the public pathways. They prefer to dawdle and watch the first-set tie-break.

And a surprising number are deaf in the ear nearest the stickler security man.

Sensational point, Tsonga at his bellicose best, wonderful power from the back and touch at the net. 4-6, two set points, the first saved with an ace out wide. Tsonga in behind his serve, Murray with a dipping return, Tsonga pick-up, Murray... winner down the line! 6-6. 131 mph serve, Tsonga nose back in front at 6-7. Second serve from Murray, sitting up, J-W long. Big chance there, 7-7...

Tomas Berdych sees out his service game with an ace and is now one away from the semi-finals.

The Czech wants to snatch it on Pouille's serve...he has match point after deuce.

But the Frenchman fends off the inevitable for now.

Second serve from Murray at 2-3, Tsonga top-edging his return into the crowd, where an old boy makes a horrible mess of the pouch. Murray tentative again - backhand into the net, 3-4 with a mini-break to Tsonga. Brilliant volleying from the Frenchman, 3-5. Huge serve, Murray nowhere, Tsonga... into the net! Huge let-off, 4-5.

Voosh, double-fault from Tsonga to open his account. Mini-break snatched straight back with a splendid deep approach/volley combo. Murray in trouble again, Tsonga clambering all over the net, volley to put awa... muffed it! Super backhand winner crashed down the line, 2-3 on serve.
