Raonic beats Federer to reach Wimbledon final

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

If you've got a serve like Milos Raonic, it's so difficult to break and even when he was ahead, Roger was never really in control of the match.

All credit to Raonic, he's played fantastically well the whole grass-court season and will be a threat to whoever he plays in the final.

He used the body serve particularly well - when it's coming straight at you at 140mph, it's very difficult to return.

    Lleyton Hewitt
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

After Federer went up 2-1 he had a lot of opportunities, but then he played a loose game at 40-0 up to hand Raonic the break in the fourth set.

Raonic kept playing big and passed really well on some really important points, and there were also some great pick-up, low volleys. Raonic kept to his game-plan, even after going 2-1 down.

In the fifth set Roger was stretching wide and not coming back into court as well as he had been. That match against Cilic probably took its toll.

How has John McEnroe helped Milos Raonic reach his first Grand Slam final?

Raonic tells BBC Sport: "What he told me today was to go out there and leave it all out there. I showed a lot of emotion, always positive, mentally I had one of my best matches of my career.

  18. Raonic into the finalpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 8 July 2016

    Raonic 6-3 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 7-5 6-3 Federer

What a match, what drama. Milos Raonic is a man mountain, but he showed the most important part of his frame is the top six inches.

Rock-solid mentality and that it a big part of taking the final step from contender to champion.

  19. 'Raonic relentless'published at 16:39 British Summer Time 8 July 2016

Listen to that response for Federer. If that doesn't make you want to come back next year then I don't know what will. Federer looks very dejected, you could see he was in a lot of pain, but credit to Milos Raonic - that serve was relentless.

Think about what that young man has accomplished. Roger Federer was 10-0 in Wimbledon semi-finals before this. Federer is an amazing champion and this was amazing from Raonic.

It was not just his serve. He showed a lot of heart, a lot of fight and found a gear I'm not sure he even knew he had. He put everything together at the right moment.
