Roger Federer returns fire with a hold to love.

Not only has the match been close, but all the sets that make it up have been tight as well.

We might need a photo finish to separate these two.

Here we go then. What have you got for us fifth set?

Milos Raonic's serve - the focus of so much pre-match chat - decided that opening game.

A double fault giving Federer a bit of a sniff, before a serve into the body and a kicking ace took it away.

Thirty-four years old plus nine sets in three days with another to come.

    You do the maths.

Roger Federer has called for the physio to administer a leg rub. Is that more a precaution than a specific problem?

Let's see. Milos Raonic missed that episode by the way as he retreated to a backstage cubicle.

That was an incredible game from Raonic, he was 40-love down. Federer amazingly served two doubles in a row.

  10. Raonic is up for this ...published at 16:00 British Summer Time 8 July 2016

Raonic really came back strongly in that set after the disappointment of the previous two. That fist pump at the end of this point shows he is still up for this.

Third time is the charm and, from 40-0 down in the game, Milos Raonic has broken to take us into a fifth.

Federer pressed to the net, but his approach to the net was not good enough, Raonic was too well set in his boots and the gap down the line was too big.

    Raonic threads the needle.

    Strap in.

Milos Raonic brings up set point with a couple of sweet volleys.

    Federer knocks him back.

Raonic brings up a second with a venomous return.

Federer comes to the net and pats away a volley to see it off.

    Proper tightrope tennis.

As if he didn't have enough support Lady Luck takes a shine to Roger Federer, helping him out with a hefty netcord.

That helps Federer to 40-0. It looks like a formality of a game.

But what is this? Two successive double faults.

Deuce and Raonic is just two straight points away from the set.

This is some pretty outstanding stuff and both of them have stepped it up big time. It was not looking good for Raonic at love-30.

Ben Wire: Raonic looks like the child of Tim Henman and Martin Johnson. Or is that just me?

Alex Haworth: Much like Cilic two days ago, I don't think Raonic has it in him to knock Federer out of Wimbledon.

That was the volley of the tournament from Raonic - the ball was behind him and he manages to hook it and get it across the net. An unbelievable volley. Those sort of things can change a match.

Roger Federer with a loving caress of a backhand down the line brings up 0-30.

Milos Raonic is stretched on the next point. Stretched, but unbroken. His full-length volley dies just out of reach of Federer's forehand flail.

    A titanic point.

Raonic with string-stretching power pummels away with cross-court forehands and comes out on top in the trade to slip out of Federer's clutches.

If you've invested in the coach and he's been on the practice court, it's good to be able to see them. But I am sure it was pre-agreed before the tournament, that John McEnroe would have TV commitments, but I am sure he would have liked some eye contact.

Milos Raonic returns right up onto the baseline and Roger Federer cannot flick back.

Suddenly it is 15-30 and the trapdoor out of this set is only two points away for the Swiss.

Raonic allows Federer to slither off the hook though - dumping a very make-able return into the net, before punching long on the forehand.

Federer is away over the horizon and that glimmer for Raonic feels like a mirage.
