I don't see any blood on Novak's feet that would indicate that it's absolute necessary for him to get a trainer before his opponent's serve. If you want to be champ you have to stomach a lot, Wawrinka is going to have to stay focused.

A serve up the middle from Novak Djokovic is not particularly quick and Stan Wawrinka tries to just chip one back to his opponent's feet near the corner. That's long, as is the next return from the Swiss and finally the world number one holds.

He goes straight to his chair where the trainer will come to do a bit of bandaging to his left foot.

There's some confusion, he shouldn't be allowed to have the trainer out here before an opponent serves. Stan Wawrinka is in conversation with an official but he sits, remains calm and wraps a towel around his neck.

You can definitely see that Novak Djokovic is unable to use that left leg much and also when you're cramping you're afraid to use that leg too much.

Novak Djokovic simply has to hold. This crowd are sensing something is happening here, the noise levels go up between points. At 15-15 Novak sends his second serve into the centre of the service box, it comes back at him and he flips a backhand long.

His parents have left the arena, coach Boris Becker looks on and wriggles in his seat. Uncomfortable Boris? I bet.

Stan Wawrinka pummels what seems like a millionth backhand down the line with pace and accuracy but hats off to Novak, his hustle and lunge pays off as Stan is long later in the rally. That's 30-30. It's the type of stuff you watch between your fingers.

A double fault from Djokovic. Yes, at a time like this. He looks at the floor in disgust after his fifth double of the match. There are now serious questions over his body holding up here, despite a healthy smash to bring up deuce. Do you need any more drama? An underdog, a marathon match, injury, now a sixth Djokovic double fault to bring up deuce for a second time. We go on...

Did you know Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer have accounted for 42 of the 46 Grand Slam titles won since the French Open in 2005?

Only Stan Wawrinka (Australia 2014, French 2015), Juan Martin del Potro (US Open 2009) and Marin Cilic (US Open 2014) have broken through the shield the golden generation have held around the sought-after titles.

So is tonight business as usual or can we see another rare win for one of the 'outsiders'? The latter is getting close.

During that comeback in the third set Novak was chirping the whole time at his box, waving his arms around, giving fake smiles. I'm wondering if that's part of why he's cramping because 99.9% of the reason for cramps is nerves. He's called the trainer in every match he's played in this event so far.

A 105mph serve out wide is too good - ace - and that's 40-0 for Stan Wawrinka. We tick to three hours and 14 minutes and another wide serve leaves Novak Djokovic stranded and with no help. Game, an easy conversion into an empty court for Stan Wawrinka who looks supremely focused.

"Ice please", says Djokovic as he walks to his chair. He rubs it on his thigh furiously.

I'm not sure how badly Novak's leg is hurting. If he wants to win this match he might need to take a trainer break right now.

Let's remember that Stan Wawrinka came into this match having spent twice as long on court as Novak Djokovic at this tournament.

Djokovic sends down his fourth ace to lead 30-15, then we get a lengthy rally as both stay deep again, it ends dramatically as Djokovic hits a forehand long and clutches his thigh. Cramp? I though Wawrinka was the tired one?  Not so as he thumps a ball almost perfectly onto the baseline to earn a break point.

Ladies and gents, this is a big one. They trade again, Wawrinka slides his feet into position to fire a forehand and Djokovic finds the net. We have a break, we have a potential winner in sight. Is Novak cooked?

The Stan Wawrinka one-hand backhand is probably more beautiful than your first high school crush. He crushes one down the line to lead 30-0 in this opening service game of the fourth.

A wipe of his brow with a towel, ball placed in those hot raspberry shorts, he serves at 40-15.Some trades from the middle of the baseline before Novak Djokovic takes one on across court. It's well long. Novak looks tense. He's reaching for this title with desperation, Wawrinka is just a tad more chilled about proceedings right now.

The trainers of Stan Wawrinka have a simple 'The Man' line on the back along with the outlines of two Grand Slam titles. One more to come?

Cripes. Djokovic long. Set point Wawrinka. Djokovic endlessly bouncing the ball before he serves, attempting to refocus... the serve finds its target, the pair attempt to outfox each other... Wawrinka pinned to the tramlines, but Djokovic is long on the backhand and Wawrinka has got him.

Djokovic, the world number one, the defending champion, is serving to stay in this set. The Serb quickly rattles off two points, but screws a backhand wide to give Wawrinka hope at 30-15.

A Wawrinka forehand down the line looks to have bounced long, Djokovic challenges and replays shows the ball kissed the paint. 30-30.

Djokovic with a serve full of slice and dice which bamboozles Wawrinka. He's a point away from forcing this match into a tie-break, but he produces a tired-looking backhand to allow Wawrinka back into the game at deuce.

A cheeky dropper from Djokovic. Wawrinka thinks about sprinting forwards but soon realises it would be a waste of his time and energy. 0-15.

Wawrinka muttering to himself as he walks back towards the baseline after a mistimed forehand allows Djokovic to move 15-30 ahead. Will the Serb pounce?

Nah. A Wawrinka forehand restores parity, then a net chord goes the Swiss' way and he's a point away from holding. Power rather than precission from Djokovic as he slaps a forehand into the tape. Wawrinka holds. Anyone for a tie-break?
