    Watson 4-6 2-1 Begu*

Great footwork from Begu brings up the break point.

She pushes Watson back and hits a strong forehand winner.

But just when she needed it, Watson comes up trumps with a fantastic cross-court winner to save the game.

And that was just the boost she needed. Her sliced backhand catches the line and that is a gutsy hold.

    Watson* 4-6 1-1 Begu

The on-court action this weekend has been flanked by some rather unsavoury off-court incidents involving Romania's captain Ilie Nastase and the home crowd.

And the supporters have been rather more subdued during this match.

But Begu draws a round of applause as she levels up the second set.

Simona Halep has just given a media conference in which she staunchly defended the Romanian public who have turned out to support her in her home town.

She says she had extra motivation today and clearly feels the home supporters should be absolved of any blame for yesterday afternoon's events.

She didn't want to address Nastase's behaviour - preferring to leave any decisions to the ITF.

A great start for Watson in this second set.

It was a difficult drive volley for Begu, it seemed to hang forever but she kept moving her feet and put it away on the final point to put Romania within a set of winning the tie.

Heather Watson did not do much wrong in that opening set. If she can keep playing positive tennis and cut down the errors at key points then she is still in this match.

  6. Game and first set Begupublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Watson 4-6 Begu

Begu waits calmly for a high ball and guides it over the net with Watson left flat-footed.

Romania take the first set here - and they're now just one set from victory.

But that wasn't comfortable for the home side.

  7. Set point for Begupublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Watson 4-5 Begu

Watson got the depth wrong there.

Her forehand flies off the back of the court and she hands Begu set point.

    Watson 4-5 Begu

And she's off to a good start.

She just waits for Begu's weak second-serve to come into her path and smashes a winner down the line.

But she struggles with the Romanian's first-serve on the next point and fires a wayward backhand wide.

    15-15.

    Watson 4-5 Begu*

And that's a good service hold from Watson.

She needs to find another break though to keep this set alive.

Begu will serve for the first set.

And remember, Romania lead 2-1 in this tie so Watson has to win.

    Watson 3-5 Begu

Great shot from Watson. Good depth from the Brit and her long forehand completely stumps the Romanian who sends the ball up into the clouds.

Watson looking good to hold her serve here as her first ace of the game brings up game point.

It was looking like it was going to be a routine service game for Begu before Watson made it a lot more tricky.

If Watson can hold serve here, perhaps she can apply more pressure as Begu attempts to serve out for the set.

    Watson* 3-5 Begu

Begu has a chance of her own to take the game but Watson is fighting well here.

She gave the Romanian the runaround on that point, but the world number 33 recovers and hits an excellent forehand with Watson nowhere near it.

Begu will serve again to hold and she gets over the line this time.

Watson comes up to the net but she was caught in two minds there.

    Watson 3-4 Begu

Begu's serve is testing Heather Watson now. She storms into the lead but Watson with some good play in the back court, claws her way back to deuce.

A couple of unforced errors and nervous tennis from Begu has turned what look like a positive game for the Romanian into a fight.

Watson attacks Begu's forehand and she's earned herself a break point from 40-0 down.

    Watson 3-4 Begu*

And that's fantastic play by Begu.

Heather Watson did well to reach a slice from the Romanian but Begu put in a brilliant passing shot to take the game.

    Watson 3-3 Begu

Watson just having a wobble on her serve.

That's a second double fault of the game as Begu takes it to 30-30.

And she forces a break point with a hard return down the middle.

This is a crucial moment for Watson.

  17. 'We have a tie on our hands'published at 11:17 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Watson* 3-3 Begu

BBC Sport's Peter Odgers on connected TVs and online coverage: It is the British fans on their feet. We have a match on our hands, we have a tie on our hands.

  18. Watson breaks againpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Watson* 3-3 Begu

The first one is well dealt with by Begu, and she puts in a good drop shot which Watson can't reach to save the second.

But Watson does break again with a brilliant return. She leaned into that one and attacked well down the line.

We're all-square again in this first set.

  19. Three break points for Watsonpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Watson 2-3 Begu

A short break as Watson has a chat with GB Fed Cup captain Anne Keothavong.

But Begu can't do the same with her captain.

If you weren't with us yesterday, Romania captain Ilie Nastase was banned on Saturday for swearing at the umpire, Konta and her captain Anne Keothavong.

A wild forehand from the strings of Begu and Watson has three break points here.

    Watson 2-3 Begu*

Begu slides out behind the baseline but Watson's backhand is just too good.

And Begu's forehand just clips the net in the next point as the Brit holds her serve for the first time in this match.
