  2. game, set and match

Game, set and match to Romaniapublished at 10:17 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Konta 1-6 3-6 Halep

A better second set from Konta but after a little wobble, Halep was relentless.

She puts Romania back in front in emphatic fashion. She's just too good on clay.

    Romania back in front 2-1.

  3. game, set and match

Konta two points from defeatpublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Konta 1-6 3-5 Halep

The crowd getting fully involved again.

Konta circles a mark on the baseline, but the fans aren't happy.

The chair umpire, Aurelie Tourte, comes down from her chair and it's confirmed. Halep's shot was long.

Konta is playing well here, but sends a weak backhand into the net.

30-30, Halep within two points of victory.

  4. Halep breaks and will serve for matchpublished at 10:13 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Konta 1-6 3-5 Halep*

Two break points for Halep. She only needs one.

Konta is forced to stoop low for a backhand, which she sends long.

That's four games in a row for Romania. And the world number five will serve for the match.

    Konta 1-6 3-4 Halep

A big game for Johanna Konta in the context of this tie.

Halep will be serving for the match if she can break the Brit here.

And she's off to a good start.

Terrific ball-striking from the world number five and she leads 30-0. Just too good.

    Konta* 1-6 3-4 Halep

A wonderful point from Halep puts her in control but Konta is not going away.

The drop shot works for her this time and Halep gets nowhere near it.

But another ace from Halep takes her to advantage and the Romanian survives.

Having been 3-1 down in this second set she's turned it around and now leads 4-3.

Konta with work to do here.

    Konta 1-6 3-3 Halep

Halep leaves herself exposed and it's well read by Konta.

She moves early and has plenty of time on the ball to hit a forehand winner past the Romanian.

This is a tight game, 30-30 at the moment.

  8. Halep breaks backpublished at 10:04 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Konta* 1-6 3-3 Halep

The Brit is in trouble here.

Two good points from Halep and she's in complete control in this game.

A second double fault from Konta hands the Romanian three break points.

But fantastic play from Konta who chokes Halep by playing down the middle and then puts away a lob to save yet another break point.

    Not quite enough though.

Halep gets the break back as Konta's flat backhand down the line goes wide.

Konta has had to work very hard to earn this advantage. First, she attacked two second serves from deuce to break Halep and then served her way out of trouble to fight off three break points.

But then again maybe Laura Robson's tambourine made the difference. It looks as if Jocelyn Rae and Katie Swan are on drums in the GB support band.

    Konta* 1-6 3-2 Halep

It's been a slightly scrappy affair so far this morning - with a host of unforced errors.

28 in total from Konta and 18 from Romanian Halep - who was far more clinical in the first set.

But she responds well and takes her first game in four to reduce to deficit to just one game in the second set.

    Konta 1-6 3-1 Halep*

Konta is fighting hard here though and she gets back to deuce.

A wayward backhand goes long as she hands the momentum back to Halep but an ace saves the Brit.

And this time it's the Romanian who misjudges the length. Her forehand goes long and she fires Konta's drop shot into the net.

A gutsy game from Konta to take a two-game lead in the second set.

  12. Two break points for Haleppublished at 09:52 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Konta 1-6 2-1 Halep

Konta needs to hold her serve, and her nerve here.

But that's not the start she would've wanted.

The Brit is desperately trying to stay in the point but Halep hits a powerful forehand past the Brit for 0-30.

Lovely soft hands from Konta as she slices a winner over the net with Halep left back on the baseline.

But the Romanian has two break points to strike straight back...

    Konta* 1-6 2-1 Halep

But that's too good from Halep.

She comes off the baseline and fires a brilliant forehand past a stunned Konta.

We're at deuce - but Konta has another break point.

A weak second-serve from Halep is pounced on by Konta and she's done it.

Another brilliant return from the Brit catches Halep off balance and Konta breaks early in the second set.

  14. Break point for Kontapublished at 09:46 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Konta 1-6 1-1 Halep*

The last few minutes have been turning in the favour of Britain's Johanna Konta.

And Konta earns herself another break point. She's yet to convert one in this match but she looks confident here.

    Konta 1-6 1-1 Halep*

    Brilliant tennis from Konta.

She holds her serve to love and that game will give her so much encouragement.

Halep tried a drop shot of her own but Konta showed a turn of speed and fired a winner past Halep to make it 1-1 in the second set.

  16. 'Konta totally outplayed'published at 09:42 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Russell Fuller
    BBC tennis correspondent in Cluj

I have little doubt Konta will enjoy her fair share of success on clay in years to come, but she was totally outplayed by a natural in the first set.

Halep's start was breathtaking, and it was no surprise Konta's errors started clocking up. It's crunch time for Britain - this tie will be exceptionally difficult to win if this match is lost.

    Konta* 1-6 0-1 Halep

But Halep survives, her serve is keeping her in this game.

Konta squanders a second break point and an excellent serve from Halep means a hold for the Romanian.

Konta getting closer but Halep has been clinical when she's needed it.

  18. Konta has break pointpublished at 09:38 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Konta 1-6 0-0 Halep

Lovely work from Konta who moves up to the net to suffocate the Romanian.

And the rush works as she slices a forehand winner with Halep left on her heels.

A brilliant game to start the second set.

We're stuck at 30-30 as the umpire comes down from her chair to investigate a line call.

There seems to be some confusion over which ball mark we're looking at but Konta is given the call and she's earned herself a break point here.

    Konta 1-6 0-0 Halep

There's no let-up here for Konta.

Halep starts the second set with a fierce serve as Konta's return finds the net.

But the Romanian follows it up with a double fault to let the Brit back into this game.

  20. Fed Cup format explainedpublished at 09:34 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

Just a quick reminder of the Fed Cup format, which is notoriously tricky to navigate. Here's my *simple run-down.

GB are playing Romania in the World Group II play-offs.

They are looking to escape the Europe/Africa Zone Group I for the first time in 24 years.

With the tie level at 1-1 after the first day, GB need two victories from the remaining three matches to progress.

    Straightforward? Probably not.

    *simple-ish.
