  1. Evans breaks backpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    Robredo 5-7 6-4 3-2 Evans*

That does not sound good for British hopes. After taking the first point, Evans tries to attack a Robredo second serve but the Spaniard's effort is too good.

Whack. Forehand return winner for Evans. 15-30.

Robredo is now a point away from winning this game but a brilliant Evans volley takes us to deuce.

That's out! Break point to the Briton. And he's got it. Another error from Robredo.

Evans looked physically broken but now he's back on serve. Great stuff.

  2. 'Intense' Robredo in chargepublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    Piers Newbery
    BBC Sport in Paris

Former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez has joined the Spanish team watching Robredo and their man is in control now, seemingly growing stronger as conditions get tougher. "Intenso!" is the word on their lips and their man is just that. Evans, meanwhile, says "I can't feel my chest, I'm done." Which doesn't bode well.

    *Robredo 5-7 6-4 3-1 Evans

Mark Petchey says it looks like Evans is out of gas on the TV commentary and it is hard to argue. He needs to find something from somewhere but he's struggling for cheap points, every one is a battle at the moment.

The Briton clings on to his serve in this game. That's his first game in this set.

    Robredo 5-7 6-4 3-0 Evans*

Robredo is on fire! It is energy-sapping stuff in a 13-shot rally before the Spaniard launches a backhand winner past Evans.

The Briton has his hands on his knees afterwards. Hunched over, trying to get a breather.

He puts up little fight in the next point as Robredo takes the game.

    *Robredo 5-7 6-4 2-0 Evans

Crunch! Much better from Evo as he hits his 12th forehand winner of the match.

Not so good on the next two points with a double fault and forehand error.

Marathon point won by Robredo and he breaks a point later with a return at the feet of the incoming Evans.

Things not looking good at the moment for the Briton.

    Robredo 5-7 6-4 1-0 Evans*

Evans is doing a good job of trying to get himself going here, chirping away at himself.

A brief glimmer of an opportunity as Evans gets to 15-30 on his opponent's serve but Robredo slams the door in his face, winning the next three points.

    *Robredo 5-7 6-4 0-0 Evans

The umpire gave a time violation just before Evans served on that set point.

I don't think the Briton agreed with the decision.

The momentum is with Robredo now. Can Evans fight back? A quick change of t-shirt for Evans and we are under way at the start of this third set.

  8. Game and second setpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    Robredo 5-7 6-4 Evans

    No, no, no Dan.

A double fault is followed by a missed volley at the net. 15-30.

Same again, another volley missed by the Briton. Two set points for Robredo.

Long from Evans. We're all square.

    Robredo 5-7 5-4 Evans*

Robredo is finding it much easier to hold serve at the moment. He has another in the bag here in no time.

It looks so tough for Evans out there in the heat. Hardly fair for the man from Birmingham up against his opponent from north east Spain.

  10. Hard going as temperature risespublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    Piers Newbery
    BBC Sport in Paris

A shake of the head before he buries his face in the towel - this is hard, hard work for Evans. The temperature is up to 32C on court and pretty stifling. Evans also reveals in one of his mid-game updates that a bag of ice split and went down his back. It's tough out there, people.

    *Robredo 5-7 4-4 Evans

    Big game this one.

Robredo wins the first point but Evans hits back with a good serve and forehand winner.

The players share the next two points, both clinching them at the net. 30-30.

Ace. The perfect time for that from Evans. 40-30.

And Robredo can't return the following serve either. The Spaniard hits his racquet off the ground in disgust.

    Robredo 5-7 4-3 Evans*

Evans is playing deep in the court here, so deep in fact he crashes into the lineswoman's chair when trying to retrieve the ball.

No harm done I don't think but Robredo holds comfortably again. The 35-year-old looks the stronger player at the moment.

    *Robredo 5-7 3-3 Evans

Evans wins a long overdue point despite looking in trouble for much of the rally. The exchanges are much longer than they were in the first set.

Ouch. Robredo plays a drop shot while at the net and Evans gets there before thumping the ball into Robredo's back as the Spaniard tried to get out of the way.

There's no hard feelings though and Evans holds.

    Robredo 5-7 3-2 Evans*

What is going on here? Evans was going strong but he has just lost the last three games without winning a point.

Robredo now leads in this second set and the British player needs to regain his focus.

  16. Robredo breaks backpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    *Robredo 5-7 2-2 Evans

This is not what Evans was after. He's left stranded at the net as Robredo fires a winner past him before a double fault.

Must be the racquet's fault. Evans swaps for different one from his bag.

It doesn't make a difference though. The Spaniard breaks back with ease.

    Robredo 5-7 1-2 Evans*

Evans took his foot off the gas a little in that game, perhaps saving his energy for the bigger battles ahead.

Robredo holds without any issues. Both players get a well deserved sit down.

    *Robredo 5-7 0-2 Evans

The blue of Evans' shirt is definitely a darker shade than at the start of this match. His first serve is working a treat though and that could save some vital energy.

Despite a fine backhand winner from Robredo, Evans holds for a 2-0 lead.

  19. Evans breakspublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 28 May 2017

    Robredo 5-7 0-1 Evans*

Back comes Evans. Despite the massive ranking advantage in the his favour, the fact the British player took the first set feels like a surprise.

Not the best start to this second set from Robredo. A few loose shots and he's facing two break points.

Another backhand winner from Evans! Another early break.

    Robredo 5-7 Evans

Evans is muttering at the someone at the end of the set. I think at the umpire about the heat.

The Briton has left the court for a moment. Hopefully he's OK because he's playing well, hitting 15 winners in that first set.

If Evans is feeling the heat, Robredo isn't showing any of the same problems. He's looking calm sat in his chair ahead of the restart.
