Konta is not giving Hsieh much to work with. She has been dominant on the baseline.

    *Konta 2-0 Hsieh

Hsieh's serve is solid but not the weapon of Konta's. The Briton is looking to attack on her returns and right away opens up two break points.

The world number 109 goes for a risky drop shot but doesn't get enough on it. Into the net the ball goes. Konta has the dream start.

    Konta 1-0 Hsieh

It was a good first game from Konta, she didn't look like she had much problems with her movement. So far she is looking good.

I think she will like this pace coming from Hsieh's racket. She likes to play against this hard, flat hitting.

  4. Can Konta conquer the clay?published at 10:15 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

Johanna Konta has mastered the art of deflecting pressure and arrives at this tournament with few expectations surrounding her, despite her stellar rise over the last two years.

When asked whether this year's unusually open draw, in the absence of some serial Grand Slam winners, improved her chances, she told BBC Sport: "I always think I can win."

Without a Roland Garros win to her name, everything she manages in the coming days will only boost her ranking heading back to the grass.

    Konta 1-0 Hsieh*

Solid start from the Briton. No sign of early nerves despite her modest record here the fact she is heading out on the main court at Roland Garros.

As ever Chatrier is by no means full.

The seventh seed holds to love.

  6. 'Konta will improve on clay'published at 10:11 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    Konta v Hsieh

Jo Konta has the potential to do well here at Roland Garros even though clay is not her strongest surface.

She has a really good work ethic, she is very disciplined and she will find a way to get that movement a little bit better.

I think she struggles sliding on the clay, she likes to have her footing underneath her. But with the type of person she is and the type of athlete she is, she will only get better.

    *Konta 0-0 Hsieh

As if by magic, as the players warm-up the clouds have separated and they now stand under glorious blue skies.

Konta is in a bright pink number, Hsieh in a more conventional white and black.

Seventh seed Konta gets us under way looking for the first win at Roland Garros in her career.

Konta is remaining positive despite a difficult few months on clay.

“I’m lucky enough to have been challenged quite a bit this clay season, so I’m really enjoying that,” she told BBC Sport.

“It’s really giving me the opportunity to grow, to improve my game, my competitiveness and generally me as a person.”

A good attitude to have, I'd say. Anyway the players are warming up. Can Konta improve that record? Let's find out.

JoKo is the seventh seed this year in Paris but is still seeking her first win on the tournament.

Britain's sole player in the women's draw is no fan of clay, she has won only two matches in three warm-up events.

The 26-year-old has played Hsieh twice before, winning once and losing once. Those matches were on a hard and grass courts though and in 2013, before Konta's meteoric rise, so don't read too much into it.

“She’s an incredibly talented player, I do remember that,” said Konta. “She can be quite tricky, so I’ll be trying to take care of things my end and adapt as best as possible.”

  12. More springtime than saunapublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

The torturous conditions that had Dan Evans emptying his stomach after a set of tennis on Sunday have eased dramatically overnight, and his fellow Brits should not have to endure anything more dramatic than a cool spring day in Paris. The maximum temperature is forecast to be a paltry 22C, although humidity is still an issue. Sticky.

Yes, there is a very British feel to this Parisian suburb this morning.

Johanna Konta is first up on Philippe Chatrier any moment now against Chinese Taipei's Hsieh Su-wei, the world number 109.

World number one and top seed Andy Murray will be on the same court around lunchtime - playing Russia's world number 85 Andrey Kuznetsov - while Kyle Edmund plays Gastao Elias this afternoon on Court 14.

Murray and Konta are big favourites for their matches but with a tricky past few months who knows?

Two British players have played at Roland Garros so far this year.

It was all smiles for Aljaz Bedene, not so much for Dan Evans.

The attention on day three is firmly on the remaining three British players, Andy Murray, Johanna Konta and Kyle Edmund.
