    Konta 6-1 6-6 (3-2) Hsieh*

Oh Jo, Jo, Jo. She plays a great point but hits the smash long.

The Briton looks straight to her box, a little panicked.

    Konta 6-1 6-6 (2-1) Hsieh*

Konta seals her first point on serve in this tie-break by coming to the net but that's too good from Hsieh. Back on serve.

    Konta 6-1 6-6 (1-0) Hsieh

Tie-break time. Hsieh serves first, tries to loft a lob over Konta's head...too much. Over the baseline. Wrong shot, wrong time.

    Konta 6-1 6-6 Hsieh

Set point saved by Konta with a seventh forehand winner.

We're treated to a bit of everything now. First a double fault from Konta, then a fine point from the Briton with a series of powerful shots. Now a drop shot from Hsieh. Great finesse. Deuce.

Eventually Konta holds. "Come on!" she cries. This set will be decided by a tie-break.

One of the members of Hsieh's support team is wearing a Roger Federer 'RF' cap. I hope she never faces the Swiss superstar in mixed doubles - I'm not sure who he would support.

He's clapping loudly now as Hsieh fights to 30-30. Wide from Konta! Set point to Hsieh...

Konta moving 40-0 ahead happened fast. I think I jinxed Hsieh. But then deuce happened just as fast!

When Konta got 40-0 ahead, Hsieh played so fast and once those first two points slipped away and got back to 40-30, Konta should have taken her time a bit more.

    Well played Hsieh Su-Wei.

Konta was looking for the kill there and looked likely to take the game at 0-40 but the world number 109 wins the next five points to keep her nose ahead.

Again Konta must hold serve to stay in the set.

    Konta 6-1 5-5 Hsieh*

Good fight from Hsieh. In a flash she is 0-40 down against the British seventh seed but she saves all three of them well.

Still, this is a chance for Konta. Deuce...

    I'm feeling a tie-breaker in this set.

It was important for Konta to come out and have a good service game. That's what she did and gives her confidence going into this returning game.

    Konta 6-1 5-5 Hsieh*

Oooh. Konta looks a little nervy at the net for the first as she puts a volley wide. Not the ideal way to start when you're serving to stay in the set.

Much better. The serve that did so much damage is back and helps the British number one take the next two points.

The unconventional Hsieh mixes it up, looping the ball up high before playing a drop shot but Jo deals with it, winning the point at the net. 40-15.

Wide from Hsieh. Konta holds. 5-5.

That was the first game where I think Konta felt a bit of pressure to produce something. Up until now she has been swinging away loosely.

For the first time I noticed a bit of hesitation. I think she was feeling the pressure.

    *Konta 6-1 4-5 Hsieh

Konta should be pleased with that last service game. If she does progress she'll have to battle through a few service games you'd have thought and that will stand her in good stead.

Unlike me, Konta won't be looking any further ahead than this match though. Hsieh holds serve and is just a game away from taking this set.

  13. Elsewhere at Roland Garrospublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

If Johanna Konta manages to see this match out and make the second round at Roland Garros for the first time, then she will face either American world number 121 Taylor Townsend or Japanese qualifier Miyu Kato.

Townsend, a former Australian Open junior champion, currently leads 6-4 2-0 on Court 3.

Elsewhere, fifth seed Elina Svitolina is 6-4 3-2 ahead against Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

That was a huge game. Konta showed a lot of mental toughness there. She fought hard for every single point.

  15. Konta saves four break points to holdpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    Konta 6-1 4-4 Hsieh*

Jo saves a third and fourth break point as this game ticks over to be the longest of the match.

A clenched fist towards her box. The Briton holds as two groundstrokes from her opponent drift into the tramlines.

    *Konta 6-1 3-4 Hsieh

First break point is saved by Konta as her trusty backhand does the job.

She still has another break point to take off her though. What a let off! Hsieh plays a great point, picking up a difficult volley at the net, but puts a smash in the net with the court at her mercy. Deuce.

Here's a third break point for the world number 109 though as Konta nets...

Konta has just gone off the boil here a little as she puts another backhand in the net. 0-30.

Ace. Perfect time for that. 15-30.

But Hsieh hits a fine return winner on the next point and now has two break points...

The second set is closer because I feel Hsieh has taken more risks, gone for shots a little more, and her service game has got better, her first serve percentage went way up.

It is a good recovery from her to make this second set a battle.

Umbrellas are up around he Chatrier stadium, but only to shield patrons from the sun - a bit over the top as it's a pleasant 20C. Konta is being made to work up a bit more of a sweat in this second set but her serving stats remain impressive - just five points dropped so far. The Konta entourage are as calm as their player, with family, agent, coach, hitting partner, LTA coach etc restricting themselves to the occasional gentle clap.

    *Konta 6-1 3-4 Hsieh

Hsieh is in fact a two-time Grand Slam champion in the women's doubles game so she certainly has the capability to to trouble Konta and deal with pressure.

Just as I say that she misses an easy backhand gifting Konta a break point but the Briton fails to take it, going wide with a forehand.

Konta makes another error, this time on the backhand side as she approached the net, giving Hsieh the game. We're still on serve.
