    *Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 3-5 Hsieh

The eighth game of this set starts with a scampering point. That probably suits Hsieh and she takes it with another drop shot which again Konta does not see coming.

Konta is still going for it. The ball crunching off her racquet as she works her way to 30-30.

First real sign of frustration from Konta as she waves her arms and leans over her racquet after missing a return. She is a game from going out of the French Open at the first hurdle.

  2. Hsieh breaks againpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 3-4 Hsieh*

Wild! Konta finds her first serve, with Hsieh just blocking the ball back, but the Briton follows it with a forehand that goes wide and long. Konta has now hit 10 more unforced errors than her opponent.

She now has another two break points to defend.

A good serve means the first one is successfully dealt with but no such luck with the second. Konta nets and that is the third break of serve in a row.

  3. Konta breaks backpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    *Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 3-3 Hsieh

It is a mixed bag from Konta at the moment. She starts this game with couple of errors but follows it with a passing shot winner and another winner right into corner between baseline and tramline.

That's what the Briton was after. Hsieh nets and Konta gets the break back.

You have to give credit to Hsieh because she lost that first set after Konta came out firing.

But she started anticipating better and reading the paterns Konta likes to play. She has upped her play and her consistency.

Hsieh has been moving better and getting tons of balls back.

  5. Who's going to win the women's singles?published at 12:05 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Big question. Our man Russell Fuller puts Jill Craybas on the spot over on 5 live sports extra.

"I might go with Simona Halep. But you've put me on the spot!" says the American former Tour player.

"She's the first who springs to mind. She moves so well on the clay and had some good tournaments leading up to this. She's one of the best clay-court players out there.

"But there are about six or seven players who could win the title. That's why it is so hard to answer that question.

"The depth of the game is so strong so hard to single out one person."

    Oh dear.

Another unforced error from Konta and the game slips away.

The British player heads to her chair a break down in this deciding set.

    *Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 2-2 Hsieh

    Danger.

An unforced error off the Konta forehand is followed by another off the backhand. 0-30.

Konta just finds the baseline on the next point but Hsieh unleashes a double handed forehand up the line and has two break points.

    *Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 2-2 Hsieh

Remember Konta has never won a match at Roland Garros. Hopefully she won't let that get into her head in this decider.

Boom. A big backhand return from Konta takes us to 30-30.

She can't take advantage though as Hsieh holds with the help of a couple of Konta errors.

    Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 2-1 Hsieh*

    Big point this...

Good stuff from Konta. Dragging her opponent left and right before finishing it with a drop shot.

Jo holds as Hsieh's next return goes long.

    *Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 1-1 Hsieh

The pair share the opening points of Konta's second service game but it is Hsieh who gets ahead in the game as Konta drags a forehand wide. 15-30.

Better from Konta a forehand gives her a 29th winner.

The Briton tries to seal the game by mixing her play up with a drop shot but it falls short. Deuce.

    *Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 1-1 Hsieh

The stats don't make too bad reading in that second set from Konta's point of view, 13 unforced errors a little high perhaps.

The major issue was the fact the Briton failed to take any of her five break points. That'll have to change in this set. Hsieh matches Konta and holds her first service game.

    Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 1-0 Hsieh*

No real change of plan evident there from Konta. She's still attacking, hitting more big forehands.

She is without doubt the more powerful of these two players but can she fight off Hsieh's unconventional style in this set?

Hsieh's ability to scramble back Konta's heavy shots into the corners and somehow turn the rallies in her favour is delighting the spectators on Chatrier, save for one corner of Konta supporters. We were on the verge of the kind of collective "Allez!" reserved for French players as the world number 109 came through that tie-break. Still, it's approaching lunch time and a good number of the locals head for the exit doors. Konta could be following them soon if she can't work this one out.

    *Konta 6-1 6-7 (2-7) 0-0 Hsieh

Just like me, Konta nipped for a toilet break at the end of that second set.

The Briton will serve first in this decider. That is usually an advantage.

  15. Townsend awaits in round two...published at 11:43 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

If Jo Konta manages to fight back and take the decider then we already know who she faces in the next round.

American world number 121 Taylor Townsend, a former Australian Open junior champion, has cruised to a 6-4 6-0 win against Japanese qualifier Miyu Kato.

Elsewhere, fifth seed Elina Svitolina is also through after a 6-4 6-3 win against Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

While Konta slogs away on Chatrier, another Brit is about to appear on Court 4. That's because Jamie Murray and his doubles partner Bruno Soares are about to kick off their Roland Garros campaign.

That is very good from Hsieh Su-wei. In that tie-breaker, other than one point when Konta missed an overhead, which was a bad miss, Hsieh played an unbelievable tie-breaker.

She matched Konta's pace and took her chances to come into the net.

She played a clean tie-breaker and deserved that second set.

She now has four set points....

    Konta 6-1 6-6 (2-5) Hsieh*

Konta can't get the cheap points she was able to earlier. This is a marathon point. And winner from Hsieh! That's brilliant. Her backhand catches the line.

    Konta 6-1 6-6 (2-4) Hsieh*

Hsieh can do no wrong at the minute. Konta comes to the net but the Taiwanese player puts the ball right on her shoe laces. Now Konta is a mini-break down. Advantage Hsieh.
