Edmund 6-3 Elias
A couple too many errors see Kyle Edmund give away one of his breaks of serve as he tries to wrap up this opener. Elias rattles through a service game as if to say, "Over to you, Kyle."
Edmund looks to have the game in the bag at 40-15 and two set points but Elias fights back with back-to-back return winners. The Yorksireman does the job with his third set point though with a trademark forehand.
Good stuff from Edmund. He started like a train and fought off a comeback from Elias who has grown into this one.

Andrey Kuznetsov's serve cracks - will his resistance crack too? Andy Murray sets up this break with some dogged defending, gamely chasing what appears to be a lobbed winner, not only reaching the ball, but defying logic and science to twist his body and knock the ball back into play.
Kuznetsov, perhaps shocked to see the ball bounce back in play on his side of the net, wallops a half-volley into the net.
That gives Murray the momentum, and gives Kuznetsov the willies. A double fault from the Russian seals the break.

Lendl is checking something on his phone - wonder if it is flight times?
Murray 6-4 4-6 1-0 Kuznetsov*
"Energy, Come on!" shouts Murray after he wins a point to level things up at 15-15. I think he is shouting at his box again. But I'm not sure Ivan Lendl would provide much energy even if he had just glugged down a couple of sugary, glucose-based drinks.
A forehand winner gives Kuznetsov some hope at 30-30, but Murray sticks his foot on the pedal to force the Russian into a couple of errors and the game.
Lendl nods, ever so slowly, in appreciation.
*Edmund 5-1 Elias
Forehand winners are crunching off the racquet of Kyle Edmund and Gastao Elias is unable to deal with the player four years his junior. Edmund has won 20 of the 29 points so far and now has a double break. He'll serve for the first set.

Justin Stone: Murray saying not motivated is a disgrace, look at his achievements and compare with 3 of "big 4" and he's not in same league
Tyler Robertshaw: It's a mental problem with Murray. And he has to sort it out on his own
Mark Harvey: Why oh why oh why does Murray constantly play so short. There's only ever 1 outcome in these points. The sarcasm is frankly pathetic.

Murray made some silly errors and allowed Kuznetsov to come back into it when Kuznetsov looked nervous.
It wasn't a set befitting a world number one.
I hope, but don't know, if Murray can improve upon that in the third set.
Murray 6-4 4-6 Kuznetsov
So then... Kuznetsov clutches a couple of balls in his right hand, knowing one good service game will wrap up the second set in his favour.
And he gets it.
Murray battles valiantly in what is a much better game defensively, but Kuznetsov's relentless peppering eventually finds a way through to edge 40-30 ahead.
And another crunching forehand winner seals the second set in the Russian's favour.

Murray drags himself back within one game with a comfortable hold. But his problem in this second set has been his returning game - his percentage of successful returns has dropped from 96% in the first set to 73% in the second. He needs to find it again now...

It's at times like these that the Lendl poker face comes into its own. Having chosen not to moonwalk or cartwheel after Murray's Grand Slam victories, he is similarly unlikely to shake his fists at the sky and scream when his man drops his serve. Or when he sarcastically claps in the great man's direction.
Murray needs something right now though, a scratchy performance in danger of becoming a real crisis.

Theo Bowyer: It's got to be a mental issue for Murray... his movement looks fine but come the big moments he's just off a few percent

Murray finally stops the leak. After losing four games on the bounce, the British number one gets his side of the scoreboard turning again.
A couple of unforced errors from Kuznetsov leave the door slightly ajar, Murray taking confidence from them to go on and put away two winners.
Turning point in this set?
Edmund 3-0 Elias*
Impressive start from Kyle Edmund out on the considerably smaller Court 14.
He holds serve and then breaks his opponent to 15. 22-year-old Edmund is wearing the same blue and white shorts as a few other players in the competition. The ones that look like they've been splattered with white paint. They wouldn't be a personal choice.
Edmund wins his next service game with a handful of monster forehands. Three games played, three to the Briton.

Murray has found himself in a hole pretty quickly. The demeanour is not good, the touch on the ball is not good, and the body language is not good.
Lendl is leaning forward in the players' box and fixing Murray with a pretty stern stare. There's a lot of body language going on around this court at the moment!
Murray 6-4 2-5 Kuznetsov*
He's got it! Andrey Kuznetsov is not in the mood for messing about, cracking a backhand winner which has Andy Murray swiping at stuffy Parisian air.
The world number 75, who has only previously taken one set off Murray in their two other meetings, is serving for the second set....

Muzza is not at the races at the moment. Sarcastic comments, ironic hand-claps, moans about his legs...
Seems his head's gone.
Kuznetsov, sensing he has got inside Murray's head, goes on the attack again, and he has another break point after putting away a smash...
*Murray 6-4 2-4 Kuznetsov
You always feel that Kuznetsov has got a stupid unforced error in him. Point proved... luckily for the Russian he gets away with it.
From a 40-0 lead, a wild swipe of the racket lets Murray have a sneak peek at 40-30. But then he blasts down an ace to hold.
Edmund v Elias
The third and final British player due to play today is now out on Court 14.
British number two Kyle Edmund is playing Portugal's Gastao Elias who is ranked 59 places below the Yorkshireman at 108 in the world.
A good opportunity for Edmund to progress you would think but the Portuguese has a couple of decent results on clay behind him this season - a quarter final at ATP Tour level in Lyon and a final on the Challenger circuit earlier in the year.
Stay tuned for updates.
