I want to see a stop to all of this silly hand clapping from Murray.

He needs to concentrate on this match. It has nothing to do with his support team.

At the moment Murray has completely lost his touch.

Andy Murray is grinning. One of those manic, I'm-smiling-but-I'm-seething-inside type of grins. The sort you might do when you miss a three-foot birdie putt on the golf course.

The 30-year-old has to save a break point against Kuznetsov, who is not fooled by a disguised Murray drop-shot.

The backhand volley lands just over the net, spinning back towards the mesh, only for the quick-thinking - and quick-footed - Russian to get there.

Another sarcastic handclap from Murray towards his box. Not the first time we have seen that today.

Excellent service game, well, at the start.

The confidence rushes back through Andrey Kuznetsov's body, a wonderful cross-court forehand, followed by a well-constructed point ended by a smash, helps him go 40-0 ahead.

Then another weak drop-shot allows Murray back in, the Brit showing how to execute such a shot in the next point.

Murray is back level at 40-all, only for Kuznetsov to quickly whip the game away from him with another ace - his second of the match - and then another stinger of a first serve.

Can we have a hold here please Andy? Murray obliges. But it isn't without a few minor difficulties.

The Brit edges 40-30 ahead, finally wrestling some court position from Kuznetsov to leave the Russian desperately scampering forward to the net.

He reaches the ball, but his desperate prod forward can't beat the net.

More presents are being dished out here than there are in your living room on Christmas morning.

Murray is given three break points to instantly wipe out that early deficit, a fourth unforced error allowing Murray to break to love. A horror of a game from the Russian.

Hang on. Andrey Kuznetsov hasn't read the script here. The Russian takes Murray into deuce into the opening game of the second set, a couple of precise - and powerful - forehand winners nicking the break. Even Murray is impressed. The world number one, twice, claps his strings in appreciation.

All appears calm and normal on the surface as the ground staff drag the clay and sweep the lines while Murray muses on the first set, but there was a definite wobble and a few negative signs.

Coach Lendl is hunkered down behind sunglasses in usual style, with Jamie Delgado alongside him and wife Kim just behind. There has been one minor outburst in their direction, but Kuznetsov did their man a favour with some loose stuff to give up the set.

Come on Andy, don't let us down. The two top seeds have never both been knocked out of the first round at Roland Garros. It can't happen today. Surely?!

If you were with us earlier, you'd know Britain's women's number one Johanna Konta was knocked out by world number 109 Hsieh Su-wei.

This is what she had to say afterwards.

"I think I definitely created some opportunities; I think I didn't do well enough in necessarily converting them," Konta said.

"But then there were times where I felt that she did play incredibly well.

    "My expectations are never results-orientated.

"In that sense, whether I've lost first round or third round or quarters, I do my best to not judge myself on that aspect.

"Obviously, I like to be involved in a tournament for as long as possible, and I would have liked to have been involved here longer."

Seven and a half out of 10. I was impressed in that last game. Murray could have got down on himself after gifting a game to Kuznetsov.

    Murray 6-4 Kuznetsov

What's Kuznetsov doing? He generously hands that break straight back. A double fault means Muzza has three chances to wrap up the opening set...

...he needs just one. A cross-court backhand from the left wing leaves the Russian scrambling and, although he reaches it with an outstretched arm, it lacks the power to scoot over the net.

What an awful game from Andy Murray.

He had control of that set. All he had to do was stand up and hit four good serves. I am not sure if it was concentration but he completely let Kuznetsov off the hook.

    Murray 5-4 Kuznetsov*

Well, well, well. Murray was chugging along as nicely as a canal boat on a calm summer's day.

Then the British number one presses the panic button. He coughs up another unforced error to gift the game to Kuznetsov. He might as well have stuck wrapping paper and a bow on it.

    *Murray 5-3 Kuznetsov

After losing the opening point, Murray is dragged into probably the first sustained rally of the match. Kuznetsov blinks first - and buckles. He tries a drop-shot from the back of the court and watches it loop head-first into the mesh.

The Russian nudges back ahead at 15-30 and then...Murray mishits a forehand long.

    Two break points to Kuznetsov....

    Murray 5-3 Kuznetsov

Can Murray get this opening set wrapped up on Kuznetsov's serve? He has a chance.

The Russian drop shot is gobbled up by a scampering Murray, who lunges forward at the net to return, surprising his opponent into a waft into the net.

That's 30-30, and then, seconds later, it is 40-30 as Kuznetsov smacks down his first ace of the match.

Murray is going to have to win this on his own serve...

Murray is kind of grinding Kuznetsov's face into the clay at the moment. He has got that break and is hitting aces and forcing errors.

That last game and a half will really boost Murray.

What Murray needs now is an easy hold. What Murray gets is an easy hold.

Some stoic defence drags him back into the opening point, eventually chiselling Kuznetsov down, then he brings out some hefty serving to go 40-0 ahead.

Another mistake - Kuznetsov's ninth unforced error - seals the deal. And that brings out the first Dunblane-accented "Come onnn!" of the afternoon.

Kuznetsov can be streakier than a packet of cheap bacon. And here's the evidence...

The Russian makes three unforced errors on the bounce as a 30-0 advantage disappears into a 40-30 deficit.

Break point. Murray's first of the match. And he takes it! The Brit holds his position - and his nerve - forcing Kuznetsov into another mistake.

So far you would give Murray seven out of 10. He has got gradually better since those first three points. He is playing his way into this match now but we have seen enough to know that Kuznetsov is not going to be an easy nut to crack.
