  1. A Bedene state of mindpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 31 May 2017

I do wonder just what Bedene's state of mind is.

It seems he might have blundered by bringing up the issue over national representation.

There must have been a blow back. He must have had calls from the LTA and players. He likes to have a quiet life and I think the whole thing might have been a bad error in terms of the timing.

Milos Raonic, the fifth seed, is now safely through, seeing off Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil 4-6 6-2 6-3 6-4

The big man with the big serve takes little time to take the first set. Aljaz Bedene is going to have to raise his game considerably to make his way into round three.

    *Vesely 5-3 Bedene

I wouldn't say this court 3 was tight but Jiri Vesely almost decapitated a ballboy playing a slice down the line there.

Aljaz Bedene makes light work of his service game, holding to love.

It's looking like the first set is heading the way of Jiri Vesely and the Czech Republic.

Earlier on we told you Milos Raonic was in trouble after dropping the first set against Rogerio Dutra Silva, well, he's turned it around.

The Canadian fifth seed - runner-up at Wimbledon last year of course - comfortably won the second and third sets and leads 5-4 with a break in the fourth.

There's a tricky start for another seed though with France's Lucas Pouille currently 5-3 down in the opening set against Thomaz Bellucci, the world number 61.

The French fans definitely won't want to see anymore of their home favourites go out after the early exit for Jo Wilfried Tsonga.

Aljaz Bedene is able to hold his serve though and give himself a platform in the first set. He needs to conjure up a break of serve though.

    .

The grounds are absolutely swarming with people as we head into a beautiful Paris evening, a huge number of French schoolchildren among them. Which is delightful, obviously. The queue is swelling outside court three, which is right above the Roland Garros Boutique. 32 euros for a giant tennis ball if anyone wants one?

    *Vesely 4-1 Bedene

Aljaz Bedene is wobbling here as he plonks his shot long at the start of his service game. Both players are making plenty of errors so far to be honest. That's 16 so far. 15-15

    Vesely 4-1 Bedene*

Jiri Vesely fights back from 0-40 to take control of this first set. His serve was so wide there that Aljaz Bedene almost ended up in the first row of the crowd chasing to get it back.

But Aljaz Bedene coughs up all three cheaply. Got to be taking those.

Basically as soon as I commented that Aljaz Bedene was striking the ball well, he's started clunking it all over the court.

    A classic case.

You can't make 27% of your first serves in at this level though. Must do better.

Hang on though - three break back points...

  13. BREAK for Veselypublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 31 May 2017

    *Vesely 3-1 Bedene

Aljaz Bedene is struggling on his serve now. A double fault brings up another break point, he puts his first serve into the net and then clips a shot into the net to give Jiri Vesely the early break.

BREAK POINT. Chance here for Jiri Vesely to take some early control. But he instead lashes wide from the back of the court.

    *Vesely 2-1 Bedene

Aljaz Bedene has started in impressive fashion, and that's a fantastic winner down the line. Clean as you like. He is timing the ball very nicely indeed.

This game is being played out on court 3 at Roland Garros, and the rush hour traffic which is passing behind the players is a bit off putting. Don't miscue one into the buses!

I don't think Aljaz Bedene is going to get many looks at the second serve of Jiri Vesely. Banging them through.

Aljaz Bedene holds his serve reasonably comfortably. He looks a better mover around the court.

Nice touch at the net from Aljaz Bedene, drawing Jiri Vesely forwards before looping a slice past him and into the corner.

If this goes to ground stroke rallies on an even base then Bedene will have the advantage because he is very consistent.

That is what makes him so dangerous in this surface.
