    Ramos-Vinolas 6-7 1-6 0-0 Djokovic*

A drop-shot from Djokovic spins away from ARV's grasp like a moth evading the clapping hands of a child....30-15.

But then... a couple of winners from the Spaniard - one off each flank - brings up a break point...

Djokovic's mum and dad are on their feet as their boy levels things.

Not surprisingly the stats are moving in a positive for Djokovic after that second set, as he won a crushing 67% of points on the Spaniard's second serve and dominated with 80% on his own. He was still a very un-Djokovic 23 errors to 23 winners after two sets though, and the relentless precision is still lacking.

    Ramos-Vinolas 6-7 1-6 0-0 Djokovic*

Well that was a bit more straight-forward for Djokovic. After needing 73 minutes to win the opening set, he flew through the second in a bright and breezy 28 minutes.

Another one of those will do nicely for the Serb. And those of us hoping to get an early cut from the office.

    Ramos-Vinolas 6-7 1-6 Djokovic*

Good from Albert Ramos-Vinolas, rattling through to go 40-0 up but then, just like that, Djokovic is back at deuce with a blistering shot or two.

ARV has advantage, a slip from Djokovic a contributing factor, but Djokovic smashes to win the second set!

I wonder if Rafa Nadal is watching on tonight? As much respect as he has for Novak Djokovic, and all of his foes on tour for that matter, he won't have seen too much from the great Serb to worry him here.

Novak is playing better than he was, and he's a game away from the second set. But he's a long way from his best and from Nadal's current form.

I just had to stand up and make way for an interested spectator to shuffle past in the media seats, which have emptied a bit since Djokovic took control. His former coach Boris Becker, sporting black baseball cap and bright red trainers, is taking a look from an unusual vantage point at how the Serb is doing without him.

Shadow right across the Philippe-Chatrier court in Paris now. Novak Djokovic looking to step on the gas and get this one to bed nice and early.

Well, not early, but you know. what I mean. Promptly. He wraps up another service game with minimal fuss.

Break point up for Novak Djokovic as ARV slams one into the net which 20 minutes or so ago would have sailed down the line.

And that's wild, and wide. And Novak is 3-0 up.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas needs a solid service game here, get on the board. A foot fault called against him though, you don't see those every day.

While Rafa Nadal and, to a lesser extent, Stan Wawrinka might be hogging the headlines for storming into the last eight without much bother, there is someone else going slightly under the radar.

Dominic Thiem hasn't dropped a set in his opening four matches either.

The 23-year-old Austrian, seeded sixth at Roland Garros, bats away unseeded Argentine Horacio Zeballos in little over an hour and half on Lenglen.

Next up? Novak Djokovic. Or Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

The court is almost completely in shade now but there's plenty of sunlight for a couple more hours if required - it was 10pm local time when Tsonga finished earlier in the week. As the sun dips, conditions get heavier for the players and the crowd tends to get livelier. This is when Roland Garros really tests your mettle.
