    *Nadal 6-1 2-1 Bautista Agut

Bautista Agut's serve is creaking again. Nadal is dismantling it.

The 17th seed has landed 80% of his first serves, but only won 50% of the points. And his stats on the second serve are woeful. He has won just one point on it.

Rafa spurns a couple of break points as he generously lets his compatriot take it into deuce, another chance going when Nadal balloons a mishit forehand almost into Row A.

Finally he takes a chance, dropping one over the net before moving in and swatting away a volley.

Fifth seed Milos Raonic has had a good tournament so far - but he' not having it all his own way against Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain.

Busta has just taken the second set on a tie break.

Canadian Raonic has slammed down 12 aces but has also thrown in 35 unforced errors in the match so far - and if he wins it looks like he'll be playing Rafa in the quarter finals.

    Good luck with that...

    Nadal 6-1 1-1 Bautista Agut*

Ruthless. After a unforced forehand error in the opening point, Nadal puts his foot on the pedal. He gives the eyes to Bautista Agut, sending another forehand winner down the line to hold.

    *Nadal 6-1 0-1 Bautista Agut

These two Spanish hombres have only met once on Tour before. That came in Madrid three years ago, and Rafa won 6-4 6-3.

If Bautista Agut wants to avoid a similar fate then he had better get cracking. A hold to love, sealed with a lovely forehand winner, is the best way to start doing that.

We now know who Andy Murray will face in the last 16 - it'll be Karen Khachanov of Russia.

    The world number 53 has just beaten 21st seed John Isner after winning a fourth-set tie-break for a 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-3) victory.

Khachanov, 21, beat Tomas Berdych in the previous round so is obviously in good form and a player of some promise.

Andy will be able to gain insight into how to beat him from his brother Jamie. Jamie and partner Bruno Soares beat Khachanov in the men's doubles in straights sets on Friday.

One man who is hoping - and perhaps praying - that he can stop Nadal is one Andy Murray.

And we have some news of interest to the world number one...

There were a few specks of rain at one stage but the sun is out for the most part, so no respite likely for Bautista Agut in the near future. A fine player, he just does not have the power on his groundstrokes to hit through Nadal at the other end. It will be a good result for Spain either way and there are plenty of Spanish flags around Lenglen, a sight that will become more familiar as the second week progresses and the Nadal fans arrive en masse.

  9. Game and first set - Nadalpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

    Nadal 6-1 Bautista Agut

A see-saw start to this potentially set-winning game, the pair trading points to 30-30 before Bautista Agut hands over the momentum with a forehand into the net from the baseline.

Set point Rafa... and he's got it.

Nadal pins his Spanish compatriot behind the baseline, creating the space to creep forward and dispatch a fizzing forehand down the line.

    *Nadal 5-1 Bautista Agut

Bautista Agut is let off the hook as Rafa misfires with a backhand from the baseline, but when his opponent follows suit to give him a second break point, the fourth seed converts.

A brilliant backhand winner leaves Rafa serving for the first set. We've barely played half an hour...

    Nadal 4-1 Bautista Agut

Bautista Agut mixes it up with a neat drop-shot which has Rafa scrambling, the fourth seed sliding into towards the net but not able to loft the ball over.

That's 15-15, and quickly it becomes 30-15 when Bautista Agut cracks a forehand winner down the line.

Unfortunately it doesn't get any better for Bautista Agut. A couple of unforced errors make it 30-40 and another chance for Rafa...

...saved. A wonderful backhand winner from the back of the court leaves Bautista Agut flummoxed, but then Rafa gives him another chance...

Plenty of grunts from both men as they slug it out in a 20+ shot baseline rally, Bautista Agut blinking first as he slaps a forehand into the net.

Rafa doesn't need another invitation. He turns it around to hold, just.

    *Nadal 3-1 Bautista Agut

Rafa cruises into a 30-0 lead, then has his momentum checked by the umpire. Nadal receives a time violation for taking too long behind service points, one to keep an eye on...

Bautista Agut responds by levelling at 30-30, a brilliant forehand from the baseline beating Nadal all ends up.

And then the world number 18 has another break point when Rafa hits a forehand long....

    *Nadal 3-1 Bautista Agut

That means Rafa has already lost as many games as he did against Nikoloz Basilashvili on Friday...

Bautista Agut cannot build on that success as Nadal moves 30-0 ahead with a trademark forehand, but levels when his backhand takes a huge chunk of the net and drops over to safety.

He apologises, obviously. But none of these tennis players ever mean it, do they? Really?

Nadal takes control again to earn another break point, slamming a forehand into the tramlines, but Bautista Agut gives him another chance and it goes.

    Four games, three breaks...

  15. Bautista Agut breaks backpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

    Nadal 2-1 Bautista Agut*

Hang on, who hasn't read the script?!

Rafa Nadal has lost his serve! An instant break back for Roberto Bautista Agut.

Fourth seed Nadal coughs up two double faults to gift his compatriot two break points, another error from Rafa - this time with a rogue backhand - putting Bautista Agut back in the mix.

    "Champion in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014!!!"

The Rafael Nadal on-court introduction has become a bit of a thing when he plays on Suzanne Lenglen Court, where there is always a big enough crowd from the start to enjoy the crescendo and erupt into applause.

It might have taken his invincibility to slip for the last couple of years to make the crowd here really fall in love with their greatest ever player.

Ominous indeed. Rafa has already nipped in and pinched a serve out of Bautista Agut's pocket.

  18. Postpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

    Nadal 1-0 Bautista Agut*

Rafa Nadal is in imperious form. The King of Clay is showing he has no intention of abdicating just yet.

He powered past hapless Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili in their third-round match on Friday, racking up his easiest ever win at Roland Garros with a brilliant 6-0 6-1 6-0 victory.

And an ace seals an easy hold in his opening game against fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut.

Ominous for the world number 18...
