There was a little wobble in the second set but Pliskova came through it well and will now be installed as the favourite for Wimbledon.

She is becoming a serial winner, she's tougher mentally now, and has a great game for grass.

    But there it is.

A straight-sets victory for Karolina Pliskova who takes her first Eastbourne title.

    Pliskova 6-4 5-4 Wozniacki*

    Close!

Pliskova's forehand lands just the wrong side of the baseline, to Wozniacki's relief. That could have been a fine winner.

Two more Championship points to go...

But Wozniacki will go down fighting. A nervy second serve from Pliskova which the Dane pounces on and smashes a forehand winner down the line.

Another huge serve which Wozniacki can't return brings up Championship point number one...

    Pliskova 6-4 5-4 Wozniacki*

So it's the world number three serving for the Eastbourne title.

A decent way to start things off - her ninth ace of the match - swiftly followed by her 10th.

    Pliskova is not messing about.

  6. Pliskova gets the breakpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

    Pliskova 6-4 5-4 Wozniacki*

Could Wozniacki be feeling fatigued? The Dane spoke yesterday of playing eight sets of tennis in a day and a half.

Pliskova, of course, had that walkover in her semi-final so is by far the fresher player.

Wozniacki saves two break points though, one to go.

But that's an exquisite forehand from Pliskova. She's breaks Wozniacki and is now just one game away from her first Eastbourne title, having lost in last year's final.

    *Pliskova 6-4 4-4 Wozniacki

    Worrying times now for Wozniacki.

She's 30-0 down on her own serve and she's showing signs of frustration.

The Dane hits a loose forehand into the net and throws her racket down in anger.

Pliskova has three break points here...

    Pliskova 6-4 4-4 Wozniacki*

As we've come to expect, Pliskova starts her service game with a huge serve out wide and she's off to a flying start.

Wozniacki just has to wait for that second serve and then pounce - which she duly does.

The Dane resets, races forwards and beats Pliskova with a good forehand winner.

But it's not to be for Wozniacki. Her backhand return lands just the wrong side of the baseline and Pliskova's second serve is too big and too good. Wozniacki finds a return but Pliskova just drops a forehand into the empty court.

    All-square in the second set.

    Pliskova 6-4 3-4 Wozniacki*

The Dane won't be put off by pesky birds though.

Her first ace of the final sets her on the front foot and she wraps up with the game with another big serve followed by a commanding forehand.

    *Pliskova 6-4 3-3 Wozniacki

And she follows it up with the shot of the match.

With Wozniacki at the net, Pliskova floats a passing forehand right into the far corner of the court. Sublime.

She could be on for a break here as Wozniacki takes another pause for the seagulls.

The chair umpire is asking them to be quiet.

    "I'm trying" he says.

    *Pliskova 6-4 3-3 Wozniacki

This is a very, very long game. But one which is absolutely vital for the match.

Pliskova keeps clawing herself out of trouble as Wozniacki blows her third, and then fourth break points of the game.

Pliskova places a forehand down the line with Wozniacki nowhere near. She was just toying with the Dane there.

And after saving four break points, Pliskova smashes an ace right down the middle to hold.

    Pliskova 6-4 2-3 Wozniacki*

A rare double-fault by Pliskova opens the door for Wozniacki who brings up her first break-point.

But a huge serve out wide flies straight past the world number six - her go to serve.

A sloppy game this one and we're back at deuce, as neither player seems to be grabbing it by the horns.

But another opportunity for Wozniacki to break Pliskova's serve as an accurate lob brings up the advantage.

  14. Postpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

    Pliskova 6-4 2-3 Wozniacki*

Wozniacki finds a way into the service game but Pliskova's serve is once again too strong for the Dane.

And the Czech proves she's not just about the serve with a fierce cross-court backhand which stumps Wozniacki.

A tougher service game for the world number three though after clever play from Wozniacki.

Both players are up at the net and Pliskova's diving forehand lands in the tram lines.

    We're at deuce.

    Pliskova 6-4 2-3 Wozniacki*

Wozniacki is looking comfortable in her own service game. A tricky bounce of the ball checks up and is caught wrong by Pliskova, and it brings up three game points for Wozniacki.

But she only needs one. Pliskova hits a wayward backhand and that's a love-hold for the Dane.

Now to tackle the big Czech's serve...

She's getting more advice from her coach, translation to come. Help please.

    *Pliskova 6-4 2-2 Wozniacki

Wozniacki is playing well on her own serve, but she's got to find a way to tackle Pliskova's game.

The Czech seems to be able to place her ball anywhere on these serves and storms into a 40-0 lead.

And that's back-to-back holds for Pliskova. Wozniacki was nowhere near.

  18. Pliskova world number one in waitingpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC One

Wozniacki's serve has improved over the last few years but she's not as good at the net and struggles sometimes with the firepower. You need out and out strikes on this surface.

Wozniacki is a counter-puncher like world number one Angelique Kerber but that's against the trend of women's tennis where big strikers like Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova have been dominating.

That's why Pliskova looks like the world number one in waiting because of her game style.

    Pliskova 6-4 1-2 Wozniacki*

Wozniacki had picked up a head of steam there but two unlucky bounces of the ball brought the game back to deuce.

But the world number six recovers to take the advantage and hold her serve.

Her coach said to serve at Pliskova's body but she's not exactly listening to advice...
