Midday is the peak time for the world's best players going out for a hit, it seems.

The snappers are all lined up for former world number one Caroline Wozniacki, who stretches before her practice session with an elastic exercise band.

Then a smiling Gael Monfils saunters out, closely followed by one-time Wimbledon semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov. French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko slips past almost noticed, then last year's runner-up Milos Raonic appears out of nowhere.

Oh, and there's Martina Hingis. The cameras don't know which way to point...

    Bedene 2-4 Muller

Can Aljaz Bedene break back fast then? He had looked good on serve but his game deteriorated before our eyes over a few points there.

Muller goes to 15-30, perhaps a chance? Break points as Muller puts a forehand out of bounds!

I think that break of serve was a bit of a gift. At the moment, neither player looks at their best.

Bedene doesn't look sharp at all.

  4. Muller gets the breakpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Bedene 2-4 Muller

Break point survived, but Bedene can't put the game away as another laser of a forehand from Muller has his scampering across the baseline. Back to deuce we go, and then a lovely volley at the net brings up a second break point for Muller.

Chance again - saved with ace number six. Another break point though in this epic game, and Bedene is long!

    BROKEN BRITON.

Five aces for the match now for the Brit. Bedene is not known for a big serve - he is known for his accurate serve - he finds corners but that double fault has come at a bad time.

Both players look a little flat at the moment to be honest. They aren't quite there yet.

    Bedene 2-3 Muller

Bedene looks neat so far, timing the ball well and finding the angles, up to five aces already too.

As John says though, taking his chances on the Muller serve is likely to be key. He looks rock solid on his own serve, although as I type he puts two shots wide to bring up deuce! Classic.

Muller pumps a cracking forehand down the line to bring up a break point - chance here - now a second serve for Bedene.

Muller into the net. A let-off.

Sometimes on a grass court, when you are playing against a big server like Gilles Muller, you may only get one chance per set to break them and Aljaz Bedene has not capitalised on his chance just now.

    Will he get another?

There's royalty in practice courts. The queen of British tennis - Sue Barker, of course - is practising her lines with Andrew Castle ahead of the live BBC TV broadcast.

"Hiiiii Sue!" coos a fan just below her at the court fence.

The Beeb legend seems quite surprised she has fans. They are millions of them across the nation Sue!! She turns, beams and waves.

She's as nice as she's is on the box, I can assure you.

It's the players' fault if they get hurt then, not the courts. Right.

No problems underfoot as yet on Court Two, but problems for Gilles Muller, who has just won his first career grass tournament at the ripe age of 34*, as he duffs in another double fault.

He's looking at the sky forlornly. Problems spotting the ball? It is bright yellow. He finds a big ace though to hold on.

    *Hope for me yet.

  11. What's with the slippery courts?published at 12:04 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Andrew Castle
    BBC Sport tennis commentator

The club monitor the moisture levels of the grass at all times but when it's hot, it wilts and dies and then can become slippery.

I spoke to the Centre Court groundsman who told me his plan. This morning, he put the roof over and soaked it to give it a drink and a rest. We all need that every now and again.

The trouble is the players aren't used to it as they don't play on it for much of the year- they are mostly on clay or hard courts and they try to play like they do those.

Hopefully they understand it's a natural surface and it does show natural signs of wear and tear.

Queuing overnight to watch a match on a screen. madness, I tell you.

Those who have chosen to see some actual tennis see Bedene whip through another quick service game. He looks in good nick.

The folk I spoke to on Murray Mound just now said they had turned down court two tickets, and thought there were a lot of them still going - it looks like they were right.

It seems there are hotter tickets around than Aljaz Bedene today and there are plenty of green seats up for grabs all around me - for now at least.

She's the sixth seed but has Karolina Pliskova's defeat opened the way to Johanna Konta winning the title?

  16. Why is Azarenka unseeded?published at 12:00 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Azarenka v Watson

If you told Heather Watson that she would be facing the world number 683 in the third round at Wimbledon I imagine she would have snapped your hand off.

However, the stats don't always tell the full story. Victoria Azarenka is a two-time Slam winner and multiple semi-finallist here at Wimbledon.

The 27-year-old is so far down the pecking order because she missed the best part of a year with a knee injury, and then a pregnancy.

Now, with Leo a seven-month old to juggle alongside life on the court, the former world number one is a potential thorn in the side of anyone in the women's draw.

    Bedene 1-2 Muller

A double fault for Gilles Muller, after I said he won't give away any cheap points on his serve, but the big man lumbers easily enough to put away a short return too.

Bedene puts pressure on and gets it to deuce. An early break chance? A big sliced serve into the body cramps him up and he can only pump a shot wide, before Muller finds another big serve to win it.

    Promising for Bedene though.

Look. There he is with partner Camilla Kerslake-Morgan.

    Bedene 1-1 Muller

Rich applause greets Aljaz Bedene as he whips down a couple of aces in his opening service game. A compact player, economical in action with a skiddy serve.

The bare minimum of fuss as he holds to 15. Lovely.
