    Bedene v Muller

Play is due to start on the outside courts in 20 minutes or so. Though - a pet hate of mine - there is a bit of faffing about before play starts isn't there?

    Get on with it.

Anyway, Aljaz Bedene is first up on Court Two.

  2. British woman favourite?published at 11:10 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Konta v Sakkari

British number one Johanna Konta is now rated as the favourite with some bookmakers for the women's crown, and she faces Maria Sakkari of Greece on Court One at about 15:00.

The 21-year-old from Greece is ranked 101st and has made it through to the third round of a Grand Slam for only the second time.

Konta, 26, thrilled the crowd in her first ever Centre Court win on Wednesday and gave further evidence that she could be a title contender.

"I guess I keep sounding like a broken record, but for me, pressure is a very self-imposed thing," said the Briton.

"I'm approaching this event like I am every other event. I'm coming here to do the best that I can, to compete the best I can."

Heather Watson is getting fitter with every match. Suddenly her confidence is back. She’s got such good foot movement and is quick around the court. She makes life difficult for opponents.

Man, it's getting hot in herrrrre. As early 00s hip hop star Nelly would say.

The Wimbledon practice courts are already scorchio, with temperatures set to hit 30C again.

Heather Watson needs a sit down, cross legged and sipping water in the shade of the court fence, after whacking back a few forehands.

Keep hydrated Watto. She opens up on Centre against Victoria Azarenka in a couple of hours.

Stephanie Siu: After camping Tues, Centre Court on Wed and a day in front of the TV yesterday, I'm back to work today. Sigh. Let's go Brits x4!!

Joel Newnham: No pressure on Watson, she's not seeded and not Konta. Is this having a positive effect?

  7. Measure for measurepublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Bedene v Muller

Aljaz Bedene is bidding to record back-to-back wins against Top 30 opposition at Tour-level for just the third time in his career. He previously recorded successive wins against Top 30 players by defeating No 14 Feliciano Lopez and No. 15 Roberto Bautista Agut at 2015 Chennai, and by defeating No. 23 Bautista Agut at 2015 Hamburg and No. 11 Gilles Simon at 2015 Winston-Salem.

    Can he march on?

An official has just measured the court with a big measuring tape. I doubt it's moved since yesterday but good to see all the same.

  8. Next to fall in wide open Wimbledon?published at 10:49 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

The wide open Wimbledon continues today, with second seed Simona Halep and fourth seed Elina Svitolina the next big names with high rankings to walk the plank and see if they can keep their heads above water for another round. Third seed Karolina Pliskova departed yesterday and many bookmakers now have Johanna Konta down as favourite.

Keep an eye on French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, who plays the equally attacking Camila Giorgi on court two. The winners to errors ratio will be close, entertainment value high. As Ostapenko said in Paris, "If I see a ball, I just want to hit it." Simple really.

  9. Mattek-Sands latestpublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

An excellent question Sarah-Fiona, and one I was just asking myself.

    Here's the latest:

The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) said on Friday morning: "Bethanie is currently undergoing more scans this morning and we should know more within the next few hours.

"Bethanie of course thanks everyone for their kind wishes and messages of support."

  11. Can you win as a mum?published at 10:41 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Azarenka v Watson

Former world number one Victoria Azarenka is going for glory at Wimbledon - less than seven months after giving birth to son Leo.

Azarenka, 27, who plays Britain's Heather Watson today, has been speaking this week about the challenges of juggling a professional tennis career with motherhood.

Kim Clijsters, who won the 2009 US Open 18 months after the arrival of daughter Jada, is one of only three women to have won Grand Slam titles after becoming a mother.

"For a first-time mum, travelling on the road full-time is hard - but I am very glad I did it," Clijsters told BBC Sport.

"It was a big adventure for us as a family and I would not have changed anything."

"I spoke to Victoria on the Wimbledon practice courts this week and we talked about what we did when we didn't have kids on tour," Clijsters added.

"What do you do? You just lay around - you rest in your bed, you read a book or you watch a movie, or you catch some tennis on TV.

"That it is so useless - life now is far more meaningful."

  12. Ready for Bedpublished at 10:41 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Bedene v Muller (11:30 BST)

    Aljaz BedeneImage source, BBC Sport

Aljaz Bedene is the first of the British Fab Four to appear on the practice courts this morning.

I've love to tell you that I saw him in fine fettle. But I can't. Not because he wasn't, but because he was tucked on a court out of sight of the areas our man JJ is allowed to get to.

The British number three, who is playing in-form Luxembourg veteran Gilles Muller at Court Two in less than an hour, said he felt great anyway as he walked back to the players' area. We'll take his word for it.

There has been plenty of talk about motherhood on the tour recently - including our wonderful insight with Kim Clijsters - and here's another example of a working mum at Wimbledon.

Germany's Tatjana Maria is warming up with doubles partner Oceane Dodin - under the watchful eye of three-year-old daughter Charlotte.

Charlotte was happy to run around the court collecting balls, feeding them to her 74th-ranked mum as she practised her service game.

Charlotte was less happy posing for a cute snap after practice...

Away from the four British hopes, there are plenty of other big tennis names on display on the courts of SW19 on this fine Friday.

Second up on Centre Court, the filling in a Watson-Murray sandwich, is Rafa Nadal.

Nadal was back to his very best in winning the French Open and will have his eyes on a first Wimbledon crown since 2010. Has it really been that long?Today's foe is Karen Khachanov, the 21-year-old Russian making his Wimbledon debut.

In the women's draw, second seed Simona Halep and veteran Venus Williams are aiming for a place in the second week.

Halep takes on Shuai Peng of China while Venus - who last won at Wimbledon in 2008 - is up against Japanese Naomi Osaka.

There's more too, of course. Martina Hingis, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Kei Nishikori, Elina Svitolina...

    Bedene v Muller

Aljaz Bedene must counter the serve-and-volley skills of Luxembourg's Gilles Muller in the first match on court two at about 11:30.

Bedene, 27, is another player on the verge of breaking new ground by earning a fourth-round place at a Grand Slam tournament.

The world number 58 lost to Muller at a grass-court tournament in the Netherlands last month, but it was three tight sets.

"He loves grass," said Bedene. "He's won Hertogenbosch. He played semis at Queen's. He loves serve-and-volley play. He's quite aggressive.

"I played him a few weeks ago so I know, I wouldn't say his weaknesses, because there aren't many, but if I play my game, I've got a chance."

    Mattek-Sands suffers 'horrible' injury

Speaking of danger on the courts, Bethanie Mattek-Sands retired from her second-round match after collapsing on court with what appeared to be a serious knee injury yesterday.

The American slipped during the third set against Sorana Cirstea on court 17 and screamed in agony.

The 32-year-old was given lengthy medical treatment by paramedics before being carried off on a stretcher and taken straight to hospital.

She could be heard screaming "please help me, please, please".

It was not a pretty sight.

  20. Roof closedpublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

The Centre Court roof is closed at the moment, but there's no rain in the air.

The chat is that it’s to protect the grass and stop the court drying out too much because of the sun.

If it's not too wet in England, it's too hot. The court was measured at 43C at one point yesterday afternoon.
