  5. 'I am happy to sit back and relax'published at 20:23 British Summer Time 8 July 2017

More from Roger Federer: "It's important to get through the first week with a good feeling and I think I got that. The first match saved me a lot of energy, crucial energy.

"We go one round at a time. The first goal is to get through to the second week and I am happy to sit back and relax and then come back on Monday.

“Grigor Dimitrov (next opponent) is stronger every time I play him, he's in the perfect age right now, understands his game and is physically strong. He had a great run in Australia. I'm ready for a tough one but another exciting match because he's a great shot player.”

Here we go then... it is on Marcus Willis's racket. An inauspicious start is wiped out as the Brits fight back from 0-30 to 30-30.

Make that 40-30 and MATCH POINT!

They've done it! Court Three explodes in celebration. Standing ovation for Willis and Jay Clarke after they beat defending Wimbledon men's doubles champions and French second seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.

Willis and Clarke look like they can hardly believe it as they hug and absorb the acclaim.

Roger Federer speaking to BBC Two: "I thought it was a good match, it was fun against a serve and volley player, where you will see some lobs and passing shots. It was nice to see that and the crowd was unbelievable. He's a great guy, we fed off each other and played a great match."

Perfection finishes it off. A lovely contest, old school tennis deployed from Zverev but once again Federer fights off a challenge in some style.

    Zverev 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 4-6 Federer

It's not that Zverev was bad out there. He was excellent, in fact. But Federer is just super human.

Next up for the seven-time champion is his protegee - the so-called 'Baby Fed' - Grigor Dimitrov.

First time on Centre Court for Zverev and he's acquitted himself quite well against one of the greatest. But you do feel his time is drawing to a close in this match. Federer hasn't put a foot wrong today.

    Zverev 6-7 (3-7) 4-6 4-5 Federer*

Sharp thinking from Mischa Zverev at the net secures him the first point of his service game.

But another classy backhand winner gets Federer off the mark.

The Swiss goes wide with his next get, and then nets a return. 40-15.

Zverev overpowers the Swiss to hold.

Federer to serve for the match.

True to form in this match, Federer starts turn the screws and brings up break point with a forehand.

It goes to waste, though, when he sends a shot long over the baseline.
