The key is to get on the Gulbis second serve and get into rallies, but Gulbis knows that so he's not going to give Novak time or pace to do so.

Gulbis 2-1 Djokovic
Not many people hammer Novak for three winners as clean as that in the same game. Could be an interesting match for the multiple champ...
Gulbis 2-1 Djokovic
Shot! Gulbis finds the line with a whipped forehand, pasted into the corner. 30-30.
And again! Off the backhand this time, and it brings up a break point. This man can hit a ball. Botham-esque in appearance and striking.
FETCH THAT! Wooof. There's a break. Hammered into the corner.

Gulbis 1-1 Djokovic
Ernests Gulbis is struggling to put this game to bed but a 136mph serve helps him on his way and he holds after nine minutes.
Monfils 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 7-5 3-6 Mannarino
If Gael Monfils is to reach the second week, he is going to have to go all the way now.
The Frenchman has lost the fourth set to Adrian Mannarino and we are into a decider.

When Novak is at his very best, poor umpiring triggers him. It makes him better.
Gulbis 0-1 Djokovic
Ernests Gulbis has the look of one of the Gerhardts from Fargo. The menace too as he crunches a 106mph winner past the nose of Novak. He hadn't won a match in 13 months though before a recent win.
An enigma. If he wins today, it will be the first time in history that Latvia has had multiple representation in the round of 16 at a Grand Slam.
Jelena Ostapenko is the other. Obviously.
Gulbis clubs a shot long to bring up a break point but saves it with a monster of a serve.
Djokovic is already unhappy. He tells the umpire to focus after he orders a point to be replayed.
'Two points in a row. The start of the game. FOCUS please.'
Djokovic calls for umpire focus

Time to scarper after that titantic battle. The loos and water refills outside Court Two are going to be packed...
Sebastian Ofner and Alexander Zverev will just have to wait...
Gulbis 0-1 Djokovic
Gulbis shows in the opening game that his backhand - Boris Becker called it a weapon - could win him plenty of points, but he also misses a few routine shots too as Novak holds serve easily enough in the opener.
There is a slip on the baseline for the former world number one. That could be the talking point of the second week. COURTWATCH.

Kerber, still here by the grace of God. She was under the pump for the entirety of this match, not only on the serve but the tremendous hitting from Shelby Rogers.
Kerber 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 Rogers
Angelique Kerber's serve overpowers her opponent and she brings up two match points.
One is saved by Rogers but then the American hits long!
The world number one survives and progresses. A brilliant, brilliant match, that and a fairly remarkable comeback from Kerber.

Gulbis 0-0 Djokovic
Not your average sportsman - Ernests Gulbis was named after Ernest Hemingway.

Support for Angie Kerber seems to have been steadily increasing over the past half-hour. Perhaps those who don't want to miss a second of the action are gagging for a drink. Rapturous ovation as Kerber walks out to serve for the match...
*Kerber 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 5-4 Rogers
Rogers isn't going down without a fight.
She holds with a big forehand winner and will make Kerber serve for the match.
Kontaveit v Wozniacki
Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki is next up on Court One, The best she's managed at Wimbledon is a fourth-round place. Another one coming up?
Kerber 4-6 7-6 (6-2) 5-3 Rogers*

This is a textbook example of why you need to be prepared as a tennis fan.
Sun cream, fan (or makeshift fan), hat, water. Plenty of it.
Because if you're not then you could be in a spot of bother. Sunburn o'clock as this match ticks past the two-hour mark.
